Keys to beating the Texans
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For the Steelers, the offense is going to have to step up, plain and simple. There is no 2 ways about it. The Texans can score on pretty much anyone when they are on their game. Schaub may be somewhat brittle but the dude can throw and you can bet they'll test the secondary early and often. They won't be afraid to go after Ike Taylor either, because you know he will be one on one with Andre Johnson most of the time. Expect Gay and Lewis to get quite a workout. They'll also go after the middle with their Tight Ends since that is the Steelers weakness. If it works they'll keep at it. Both Clark and Polamalu are going to have to make sure they are in position to make the tackle, one miscue can be disaster. I also expect the Steelers to try and get pressure on Schaub. Look for Troy to do blitzing early and often, but if they start getting burned on it they'll back off. If they have success Lebeau will bring the heat all day long. You can't sit back in coverage against the Texans because Schaub is good enough to shred a defense if he gets time. For the Steelers on offense, as much as many people think this won't be a shootout, I tend to disagree. This could be the week where Ben lights it up for 3 or 4 TD's and this game ends up being a 38-35 type of outcome. If both offenses get rolling it's going to be hard for the defenses to hang with all the talent in the passing game. You can't settle for FG's against an offense that score a lot of points. I want to see Suisham kicking PAT's, not FG's. Getting to the redzone is not good enough, you better find ways to get 6 every time. |

3-step drops seem to be our defense's achilles heel. I remember McNabb, when we played Redskins, shredded us all first half of that game with 3-step drops...then in the 2nd half they got away from that and tried running the ball. Brees utilized timed routes and quick throws to the same effect.
We've got to do what we have done two years straight vs. Indy--RUN THE BALL. Everything slows down, IMO. The other team's offense starts thinking that it, too, can afford to try and run the ball. But the Saints knew what to do in the second half last week: PASS, PASS, PASS. And pass some more. Got us into a shoot out, lulled us into their world. If we slow the game down, intentionally, right from the beginning, and run the ball and mix in some shallow-to-intermediate throws to AJ and our TEs (nothing huge, just modest and methodical passes) then I feel like we can lull the Steelers into running the ball and doing the same thing. Which means we can ratchet it up a notch whenever we want to, not when he HAVE to. I think our offense is better when the run game is wearing down opposing defenses all game long. Once we get into 2nd Half shoot outs, it seems to end helter skelter.

Brees is like Tom Brady in Doug Flutie's body. I'd argue that he's better than Brady because of the scrambling factor.

I think Brady reads defenses better , has a bigger arm and is more accurate. Brees has those same qualities tho to a lesser degree .... But add in his escape ability and you have a hell of a QB. Im not mad about the loss to the Aints .... tho Im not satisfied with the outcome either.
