Most definitely, I can see that Wade knows exactly what he wants in a defensive player the way Kubiak looks for what he wants in an offensive player that will fit his scheme.

Imagine, having an experienced Defensive Coordinator who:
1) can spot talent
2) tell the GM to go get said talent.

The scoop on Danieal Manning

The Texans addressed their last gaping hole on the defense late Thursday night when they agreed to terms with ex-Bears safety Danieal Manning.

Mark Berman of Fox 26 Sports in Houston reported that Manning received a four-year deal worth $20 million, including $9 million guaranteed.

The news of the Manning signing came on the heels of the Texans agreeing to terms with another free agent defensive back, Johnathan Joseph, formerly of the Bengals.

The signings of Joseph and Manning shore up the weakest link on a defense that was embarrassingly bad last season. Manning will line up opposite Glover Quin at safety while Joseph becomes the Texans top corner.

It's funny how name association works because when I read about the signing around 1:00 a.m. local time this morning, the first thing that came to mind was the 2008 season finale when the Texans beat the Bears at Reliant Stadium.

Manning got a lot of playing time in that game after Bears safety Mike Brown was placed on injured reserve a few days earlier. Manning didn't have a good game, biting on a play fake by Matt Schaub which allowed Andre Johnson to score on a long TD pass, and then fumbling the ensuing kickoff to get the Texans right back in the game after falling behind 10-0 early.

What makes these pictures better is that in pic 19 and 18 of 26, he's making the play just as clock strikes zero in our 34-24 beat down of Indy in the upper right hand corner.

I remember one photo where AJ had one crazy TD grab (think it was AJ) and right under it, there was a scroll with Moulds' stats on it (IIRC, it was over 100 yards and a couple of TDs). People were saying it was meant to be.

Yeah that is what I was thinking that the cap space was tight and the FO had to do some "Magic" to sign these guys. Its going to be interesting to see what they can do this year, so many important guys FAs this year plus all the holes.

I think they can redo some contracts like they did to sign Brown, Foster and Schaub in 2012. That was pretty amazing. Some of the guys that are FA will be allowed to walk to sign Quin & maybe Dobbins, Ball, Forsett & Donnie Jones.

Andre, Antonio and Demeco all restructured their deals to make room for Manning and JJo. Lots of money saved from doing that, but it ended up just kicking the can down the road.
