Texans' players sound upset, confused about Palmer dismisal

From the sound coming from a few Texans members of the O unit in this Chronicle story, this whole episode is sounding more and more like a symbolic move and not any kind of real solution for the offensives problems. The Cinci
game a week from Sunday may provide a confirmation.

Nothing is going to change .... Capers is the one who makes the final call .... Do you really think Palmer was putting in 3 TE's so he could run the ball up the gut or would he rather put 4 WR's on the field and throw it down the field ?

This offense is Capers' philosophy .... Not Palmers , He's just the scapegoat :brickwall

Well at least I know now Capers is honest. He was on 13 last night with Bob Allen and Bob asked Dom "What can Pendry do for your offense that Palmer could not?" and Dom replied "I don't know if there is anything Pendry can do for our offense that Palmer couldn't"...

Sounds like a few are upset... the article quoted more positives though...

But the players also made it clear they respected the move and hoped the offense would improve following the promotion of offensive line coach Joe Pendry.

"I know (Pendry) has some great ideas as far as offensive scheme goes," Carr said. "I think he's going to do what's in the players' best interests....

"Coach P is a firecracker," Pitts said. "He's definitely more of an in-your-face coach. When you mess up on something that he told you to do, he lets you know and lets you know with some authority behind it. He doesn't mess around. He doesn't play around. "The way he calls plays differently or what can be expected, I can't comment on that. That will all be determined real soon. I just know coach Pendry is a good coach."

If you ain't producing, there's a spot on the bench for ya and the door after that....

I'm still not convinced. Okay, so he's a firecracker, he's in your face, he's Da Man. I'll point to the play of his offensive line in 2004 and 2005 and ask, just how come we're promoting *him*?

Not sure about being the man... but he's the "next in line" for the promotion that has been with the Texans.

What concerns me a little more than Pendry moving up to OC is I think it was the center / guard coach moved up to O-line coach.

the firing of Palmer and the appointment of Pendry to Offensive Coodinator is all about accountability and cohesion.

scapegoat partially, I mean no matter what he calls if the offense cannot exacute the play call its not necesarily his fault, he is not the one on the field running out of his protection into the teeth of the pass rush or over throwing his receiver, fumbling the ball or not follwing his lead blockers.

at least the players know exactly where the play calling is coming from and those making the gameplanning decisions, standing right their on the sidelines next to them

I really didn't see anything in that article that made me think anyone on the Texans offense was upset or confused by Palmer being fired. It sounded like a lot of guys saying the kinds of things you're supposed to say when this happens.

Other way around. Pendry was the center/guards coach. The tackle coach will now take over the whole OL.

Ah, you're correct.

Steve Marshall, who coached the offensive tackles, takes over the centers and guards. Pendry, 58, will continue to work with Marshall, but he'll also help Greg Roman coach quarterbacks

...so true, that is why it will take a complete 'about face' from Caper's to move this team-especially the offense-in a successful direction. To do this, Caper's needs to get rid of all the excuses and coach this team to do whatever it takes to win from start to finish. However, after 3 yrs of his 'coaching not to lose' philosophy, it ain't going to be easy--don't think even the most 'die hard' Texan fan expected (after 3 yrs) to be where we are at in year 4--no, originally, this was to be the final step to the big 'year 5.'...bottom line, 'same o same o' is done.
