Hot weather offense

use a modified shotgun, and have Carr stand an extra 7 yards deeper or whatever range the center can snap the ball reliably. This will:

- give Carr extra time to find his targets
- increase his confidence since he won't be depending on any protection
- increase the length of the game thus maximizing the open roof effect on the steelers
- make the steelers defense run more (see open roof above)
- let Carr use the extra momentum of the pass rush against them

we use the shotgun sometimes but it's not effective due to a combination of our ruined quarterback's mindset and the complete lack of picking up any sort of blitz

However, this could be overcome by simply having the quarterback start from an additional 5 yards or more deeper than the normal shotgun formation

Then we can have Carr way, way back, and everyone can be a viable target downfield. We wouldn't rely on any protection, just sheer number of available receivers and blockers.

Sure you can, rule is you have to have X number of players on the line. (I think 6, not 100% sure though) 10 WR's, one snaps ball to QB, QB then either throws quickly or gets 4-7 guys dogpile him.

I know it was just a joke but 5 aren't going to be eligible receivers anyways. Basically you have a run-n-shoot:

The RB takes the snap then turns and throws the ball backwards to the QB.(around 10 yards)
Then the QB dumps the ball to the Running back for a three yard gain.

You need 7 on the line of scrimmage and the most eligible receivers you can have is 5.

lol, NFL in 2008, in order to promote a more even playing field, teams with losing records will be granted an extra man on defense when playing a team with a winning record from the year before

Shotgun is a great idea. We have lots of great receivers, including DD. All it takes is a short pass to get it to them. We don't have to push thirty and fifty yard plays every time.

It's a common misconception here that we're "loaded" with "talented" wide receivers because a few "decent" guys had to be cut.

Aside from AJ and maybe Gaffney (when his head isn't up his ...), our WR's would have trouble making a 53-man roster outside of Houston.

I'm a little worried that it won't go exactly like that.

-Carr will not have extra time to find his targets. Carr may already be back there but those "targets" still take just as much time to get where they're going.

-Carr can't gain any confidence because now he'll be sitting there watching the defenders knock McKinney over like the tomato can he is instead of missing that particular part of the play like he normally does during the drop back. Suddenly he'll realize exactly how hopeless all of this is and that will be the end of any confidence he might gain from being farther away from the bad men in black and yellow.

-Increasing the game with this tactic will not help the Texans since the Steelers will hold the ball and run constantly to eat clock. I predict the first quarter will be over in a record setting 13:22 (Yes, the Steelers will eat so much clock that the 15 minute quarter will actually only take a little under 13 and a half minutes. The Steelers will break the laws of the universe in this one).

-Whether he's dropping back or waiting for the long snap Carr will still be roughly the same difference behind the line of scrimmage and thus the Steelers will not have to travel any significantly greater distance to crush him.

-"Extra momentum" won't be necessary so Carr can't use it to beat them. How does that work anyway? Is that like beating Mike Tyson by hoping to use the extra momentum of his fists against him?
