At this stage, I'm not so sure he does.

Carolina's apparently a lock to take a quarterback. If you believe what Warren Moon says, they've stopped short of guaranteeing Cam Newton they'd pick him, but are on that cusp of settling on him as their guy.

Denver needs run defense in the worst possible way. I'll never guarantee a thing when it comes to predicting a draft, however I'm almost 100 percent sure they're taking Marcell Dareus.

Buffalo? Never know what the Bills have up their sleeve, however I'm gambling on them taking Von Miller, Blaine Gabbert or Newton if he falls. I'd say there's an outside chance they take AJ Green.

Cincinnati takes either Green or Gabbert.

The first real posed threat to take Peterson is Arizona at five. I can't see him falling any further than seven to San Francisco.

As is, I have Arizona as a viable possible trade partner. They're in as much of a dire need to get a pass rushing specialist as anyone in the draft. While I'm almost certain Miller is the apple of their eye, I don't see him being around at 5. Thus, Arizona's looking at Robert Quinn and Aldon Smith as the next best. They honestly could trade down and get their needed pass rusher, while keeping Peterson out of the NFC West.

Just a thought, but if there's a legit trading partner in the top 5, I'd say they're it.

good post! I've been thinking Dallas will trade up with Arizona to snag Peterson.

Maybe Arizona would rather trade with someone in the AFC instead.

The Texans have a cheap owner that is willing to put out a mediocre product year after year because the fans keep selling out Reliant. He flat out played everyone at the end of the season with the Bum/Pastorini pr crap. After that old Bob soured me to this team. He can't seem to bring himself to tell the truth or get rid of Kubiak. Kubiak is a joke for head coach. Year after year fans make excuses at the end of the season and then get pumped up at the beginning of the next season. If there was an icon for mediocre it would be neck n neck between the Texans logo and Gary's face palm.
Throw in the strike this season and the NFL really looks stupid and greedy. At a time when most people in this country are having to cut back we have to stomach players and owners crying about their cut of billions of dollars.
Having said all that the draft just doesn't seem very interesting this year.

Thanks Ole Miss.

Dallas is a very realistic possibility too. A lot of the mocks have them taking Tyron Smith, however past history shows they won't take an Offensive Lineman in the first round; they've never done so under Jerry Jones.

Peterson makes a lot of sense for them too. Dallas' secondary is the drizzles, and made Rex Grossman and John Skelton look like world beaters in the final seven weeks of the regular season. Jones has never shown aversion to trading up, and if it lands them the best player in the draft, I see him offering a decent package to move up.

For what it's worth, in his most recent mock, Peter King has the Texans and 49ers swapping picks, and Houston taking Peterson. I question the logic of his mock though because he has Arizona taking AJ Green (which makes no sense to me with their other major needs taking much higher precedence over a luxury #2 WR) and then has San Francisco taking Prince Akuwamura (sic) at 11. Granted, my track record when it comes to picking the draft is suspect at best, however I can't help but think if Peterson does fall to 7, San Francisco would take him for themselves.

Why would Dallas do that when they can pretty much have the OL of their choice where they are? Their biggest need is OT and Tyrone Smith grades out pretty damn well. It is drafting for need, but he's got to be in the mix for BPA at that point.

A. Because it's Jerry Jones
B. Because it's likely Dallas (aka Jerry) loves Peterson and has him rated #1
C. Because Secondary is arguably their biggest need alongside OT.
D. Because it just smells like something that would happen.
E. Because... See A

I know there's always a first time for everything, but Dallas has never selected an OLineman with their first round pick under Jerry Jones.

It makes even less sense if you're aware of the QB situation in Arizona. King is clueless. He spews whatever his sources leak to him. King is John McClain with a coffee fetish.

Precisely.

I assume his logic here is that Larry Fitzgerald and AJ Green would be enough to make even the worst of quarterbacks look like world beaters. Apparently, King hasn't paid much attention to how bad Arizona's QB core was last season. Derek Anderson may be the worst starting QB in the NFL, Max Hall looks like a career clipboard carrier and John Skelton has promise, but he's raw as the day is long.

With this said, even IF Gabbert or Newton falls, I honestly don't see them taking a QB at 5. Larry Fitzgerald's pending free agency (he's a free agent after the season) is hanging over that franchise like the proverbial black cloud of doom. The absolute last thing Ken Whisenhunt or Rod Graves can afford to do is add another developmental signal caller. They'll be going after an established name (I'm almost certain it's either going to be Donovan McNabb or Kevin Kolb. McNabb lives in Phoenix, and could be in line for a Kurt Warner type revival, and I think his trade value is lower than Kolb's. Plus, he's more "established" as a winner in the league.)

Yet, while I don't see them taking either of the QB, I sure as hell don't see them going after a pure luxury pick, which is what Green would be. Even though he could be a fix for the long term, setting themselves up in case Fitzgerald leaves, they have much greater immediate needs that need resolved, such as a pass rusher, help on the offensive line and even help in the secondary. I honestly see them taking Peterson for themselves before they grab Green.

Realistically, if they stand pat at 5, if Denver and Buffalo pass on him, they will race to the stands to take Von Miller. If he's gone, I could see Quinn as a viable second option. However, if Miller does get picked as expected, I really do see them putting the pick up for trade, moving down. Of the teams likely, I could see Dallas, I could see Detroit and there's a good possibly the Texans could be in play. Peterson SHOULD be there at 5, Arizona trading the pick to Houston (hypothetically) allows them to keep him out of the NFC West, while also giving them the opportunity to move down and still get a player of need like Aldon Smith or possibly Tyron Smith/one of the offensive linemen.

I've got them as 1/1a. Jones' ability to block and willingness to play hurt make him a very appealing option to quite a few teams in the top ten. I wouldn't be surprised if both the Ohio teams wind up taking WR, I truly DON'T see either falling out of the top ten.

Between the two, do you want the next Larry Fitgerald (potentially) or do you want the next Hines Ward? That's essentially what teams in the top ten are choosing from when debating between the two.

Same here. I view AJ Green similar to Randy Moss and Julio Jones similar to Andre Johnson. I believe Julio fits the Texans really really well and would choose him for us over Green. Other teams, Green may be more appealing though. I'd love to have Julio but really don't think he's going to be available at 11.
