Default Doppelganger's February Mock Version 2.0

Here is my scenario. The Texans sign 0 FAs before the lockout. The minute before the lockout, Bob McNair names Doppelganger the new Texans GM. The draft occurs before the FA period.

1. Carolina Panthers: Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
Grab the top DT and rebuild that Defense with defensive Guru Ron Rivera as coach.

2. Denver Broncos: A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
If Tebow is your guy, you need someone for him to throw the ball to. Give Tebow a friend and let’s see if he can get it done.

3. Buffalo Bills: Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M
Maybin has been a bust and they need a pass rusher and if you believe he is the best 3-4 OLB ,as many do you gotta grab him.

4. Cincinnati Bengals: Da'Quan Bowers, DE
Lots of areas to fix. One would be to add a great pass rush option to the Marvin Lewis D.

5. Arizona Cardinals: Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
They could use a QB, but Patterson is great value right here.

6. Cleveland Browns: Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina
Cleveland gets the pass rusher they need to switch back to a 4-3

7. San Francisco 49ers: Prince Amukamara, CB
Lots of places the 49ers could go, but CB seems the best pick here.

8. Tennessee Titans: Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
Might be high, but he looked really good in San Diego. Bud liked what Vince brought to the table. He has always liked QBs who can run and throw, like Warren Moon. With Fisher gone he goes for Cam.

9. Dallas Cowboys: Marcell Dareus, DE Alabama
Dallas has been looking for an upgrade to Marcus Spears and he falls into their lap.

10. Washington Redskins: Julio Jones, WR
Moss is likely gone and they need a WR to take pressure off the running game. Whoever the QB is will need to someone dependable. JJ could be that guy.

TRADE: Houston trades #11(1250) to Tampa Bay for #20(850), #52(380), and #180(20.4). Here are the numbers:Houston=1250, Tampa=1250.4

11. Tampa Bay: Cameron Jordan, DE, California
A great team last year that needed a top level DE. Desperate for an elite level DE they make the trade and try to take advantage of an NFC South in which the Panthers are a few years out and the Saints may be regressing.

12. Minnesota Vikings: Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
A really fortunate guy. Minne is a great team and he will get a steady diet of handing the ball to AD until he gets his feet wet.

13. Detroit Lions: Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
Lions need a SOLDIER to protect Stafford. Sorry, I couldn’t help it.

14. St. Louis Rams: Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri
Rams get lucky and a top DE drops into their laps.

15. Miami Dolphins: Justin Houston: OLB Georgia
While they could use a running back, Houston is a very good prospect at OLB who the Dolphins could use. Winning in the AFC East means putting pressure on Brady and Sanchez.

16. Jacksonville Jaguars: Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue
They need passrushers and Kerrigan is a top 4-3 DE prospect.

17. New England Patriots: Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
Gotta Protect Brady. Matt Light’s on his way out. Wisconsin Lineman are always solid. Could have gone with Pouncey Jr, but I don't think he is a 1st rounder.

18. San Diego Chargers: J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin
The perfect 3-4 DE for SD. GREAT value pick

19. New York Giants: Akeem Ayers, DE/OLB UCLA
To much value to ignore here. I don’t know if they will make him a DE or a OLB, but Perry Fewell can figure that part out.

20.Houston Texans: Phil Taylor, NT Baylor
A good spot for the monster NT. Htown has its NT of the future.

2. Quinton Carter, S, Oklahoma
A dynamic Safety who can start right away. He brings good hands, good coverage, and can even lay the wood when needed.

2. Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh
Value pick. A true #2 receiver. Good hands, Good speed, Good size, plus who could ask for a better role model than AJ?

3. . Brooks Reed, OLB, Arizona
Hustle, Hustle, Hustle. That’s what led him to overwhelm the O line at the Senior bowl. We need some 3-4 OLBs to make this transition work.

4. John Moffitt, G/C, Wisconsin
A valuable O lineman who can play anywhere on the interior. He provides excellent depth and I am convinced can challenge for the spot in a year or less. Remember what I said about Wisconsin Oline, they are always solid.

5. Steven Friday, OLB, Virginia Tech
A potential sleeper OLB prospect. Good motor, quick, and can even cover a bit. More OLBs mean more pass rushers!

6. Nate Williams, S, Washington
Reminds me of Troy Nolan, he just seems to be around the football a lot.Good hands. This D could use him as a key backup/ST player.

6 Greg McElroy, QB, Alabama
He doesn’t turn the ball over, he hands off real well, and he makes solid throws. Accurate when he throws and does not throw very many INTs. A nice safe option to backup Schaub.

7. Anthony Gray, NT, Southern Miss
There is nobody else on the team to backup Taylor (since the draft happens before FA), so you have to draft appropriately. He could be good depth.

7. Derek Newton, OT, Arkansas State
Good size, but very raw. Needs some help. He will be a potential depth player down the line.

Jeez. I completely forgot about him. I will edit my mock and put Houston in the Miami slot, since they could use a solid 3-4 OLB.

Don't really like mocks with trades in them.

Given that, I am not sold on Taylor either so......

I would take Houston over Taylor

Carter-Love this pick

Baldwin-Love pick he's my #3 rated WR

Since Houston in the 1st give me Ellis/Fua/Powe

Moffitt- probably wont be there, Give me Will Rackley

Friday-love pick, hope he's there,I would consider taking him over Rackley in the 4th rd

Williams-Dont know much about him, Give me Eugene Clifford

McElroy-give me Hartline

Gray-Love pick

Newton-Give me Chas Henry P Fla.

If Rick and Gary had as good a draft as your mock I would be very happy.

I wouldn't mind a double dose of explosive OLB. Question mark answered which should help secondary along with Carter

Houston and Friday would make a huge impact on this defense.

No more seeing athleticly challenged Diles/Bentley or chronically hurt Adibi getting significant PT. Is a good thing.

Default Re: Doppelganger's February Mock Version 2.0

1. I'm very leery of Phil Taylor. He's rising up draft boards because of a great performance at the Senior Bowl but was a mid round pick all season with little production and was grossly over weight. He's gotten his weight under control and putting out maximum effort because he's trying out for the NFL and wants that big contract. I fear that once he signs a contract he'll go back to being lazy and fat. Like many NFL players he seems to be playing for the contract not for the love of the game.

2. Quinton Carter or Rahim Moore in the 2nd round would be great. Very good pick.

2. We've got alot of holes on defense and this is a luxury pick we can't afford. If we get an extra 2nd round pick we need the added talent on defense ie: CB, OLB, ILB, SS. Pick up some WR depth in the 4th or 5th round.

3. Good pick, this is the a right place to take Reed.

4. Moffitt is going to be very good in the NFL, I doubt seriously that he's available in the 4th, probably goes in the late 2nd or early 3rd.

The rest are good picks, decent/good depth picks.

The only major problem I have is that there are no CB high in your draft. That tells me that your either happy with our CB/secondary or your putting all our future secondary hopes on getting someone good in FA. The problem with that is that every good FA has 31 other teams making them offers and they have to want to come here. Why would a good FA want to come here when they could go to a contender?

Default Re: Doppelganger's February Mock Version 2.0

Phil Taylor is a commodity, that is the #1 reason his draft stock is rising. More & more people are convinced he is starting NG material. In the short time I've followed him he has shed weight, played with more urgency, seemed coachable with a clear mind putting his troubles behind him, which is great news & kudos to him, however based off his body of work, picking him is either out of sheer need, lack of other viable options or based off unknown verifiable projections. I would take a hard look if he is sitting there with the 42nd pick but not in favor of trading up to get him. I think we've rated his draft value very favorably on his behalf in our Big Board #30. I'm hoping he drops a bit, 12 spots is not out of realm of possibility?

otherwise as stated, I like your picks, very difficult to project exact numbers even in the first round, so rep to you

Taking Ellis in the 3rd would be a better gamble than taking Taylor in the late 1st. IMHO

Very leery of Taylor given he's got such a lousy tape from his Baylor days. Instead of going after a guy like Taylor in the Draft with all of the uncertainty about him, why not just get Shaun Cody an unlimited dining arrangement with KFC (or whichever his favorite fast-food restaurant is) ? I'm confidant he'd get up around Taylors size by September ?

Taylor played well this year with Baylor. More importantly, he did very well at the Senior practices and showed dedication.

Is he a risky player? Sure. But, who isn't a risk when you get down to about 20? Once you get out of the top 8 or so players, there is all kinds of risk all over the place. What impressed me about Taylor is that was able to learn. He made some mistakes at Penn State and transferred to Baylor. He realized that he needed to rededicate himself to the game and straighten out his act.

To me, that shows maturity. He recognized there was a problem and took actions to fix it. He was able to humble himself, work hard, and over the season looked better and better. Against Seniors, the guys he would be facing next year he looked great. He moved well for a 330lbs man, was in the backfield and was stout and unmovable at the point of attack.

He is the kind of guy a 3-4 team would love to have. I know of yall are scoffing at this, but at the end of the day, I think he is a first rounder, and it would not surprise me if he went in the teens.
