Texans' sixth-round pick becomes unlikely starter

C.C. will be our starter for the season opener. I think he played well in the preseason and I am excited to see what he could do. Who would have thought our sixth round pick would end up starting?

According to Cass, C.C. could have been a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick but since his commitment to the Louisiana National Guard and the chance he could be called to duty any day is the reason why C.C. fell to the 6th round.

This was also a very deep draft in the middle rounds. Quality players were still being drafted in the 6th and 7th round.

He was injured but probably would have lost his job because how well C.C. played this preseason according to John McClain.

I think the injury had a lot more to do with it than ability . Without the injury Earl probably starts Sunday ..... Time will tell , when Earl is completely recovered and re-takes his position we'll know it was the injury , if he doesnt then we know he got beat out of a job .

Brown was fantastic against the run but in pass coverage he was below average , getting beat several times . Missed assignments in the passing game mean easy scores for the opposition . (see the Raiders game)

I agree with corrosion, Earl is the better Safety hands down when healthy & I have to believe the reason why the Texans passed on the premier Safety in the draft Thomas Davis. CC will have to be extra good starting this Sunday because J.P. has a strong arm & a good pair of receivers in Eric Moulds & Lee Evans.

I think Brown will play well against Buff because of the inexperience they have with Losman starting. Look for Losman to throw a lot of quick-outs, short curl-ins, and that throw-out that the Texans do with Johnson. Losman will go deep every once in a while...but not enough to throw Brown off kilt. I think this is a safe bet starting Brown this game...but we should be worrisome come later on this season when we play some vet QBs.

Agree'd , the in-experience of Losman makes this much less of a gamble than against a proven veteran QB like Favre or Pey-Me-A-Ton . The Bills will probably TRY to run the ball 35+ times .... Stopping the run in this game will be HUGE .
