Meanwhile, Antwan Peek is backing up Wong on the right side. Peek started four games for Clemons last season, putting up modest numbers. But he’s been one of the team’s most pleasant surprises in the off-season. In Babin, Peek and Wong, the Texans boast a mixture of raw talent and experience that should pay dividends in this scheme. “We feel those three guys are going to give us a good combination, however it works itself out,” Capers said.

Perhaps there will be more competition for the ROLB in this year's camp than I imagined. Perhaps Antwan will emerge as the #1 backup (in other words, if any of Babin, Wong, or Sharper are injured, Wong will move to that position and Peek will play ROLB). Just a thought ... We'll see more in a few short days ...

You couldn't ask for better competition on the Right side of the ball. It's been noted that it takes 3-4 linebackers a coule of years to slide into the starting role and perform well. Peek is just following a good blueprint set by many linebackers in the past at his positions. Take a year to learn the terminology, get adjusted to a new system in a hybrid role, and get your body adjusted to the NFL. 2nd year, learn your position well and gain some experience. I could see Peek coming in on passing downs in a similar role that Suggs had last year for the Ravens and possible giving Wong some competition. I would much rather have Wong give Foreman competition and ultimately see him in the ILB role while having Peek as the outside man, than having Wong fight off Peek while Foreman gets no pressure from his backup.

One thing that I feel will help Foreman improve is the improvement of the defensive line. With a healthy Walker and Payne and the addition of Smith, Foreman should have less pressure from the opposing offensive line and should be able to make more plays close to the line of scrimmage.

I tend to agree with Ses on this one. I think Peek is a 2 to 3-year project and will be a situational pass rusher this year on the edge. I look for him to be the starter in 2005 if he progresses like we would all like to see. He sure flashed some speed and a good motor last season. I expect him to be a demon on special teams again also.
