So, I have been unable to make a proper mock, so I decided to do a quick Cherry pick of Walter. Since Walter is only doing 43 rounds thus far, I added on 5-7 just to round it out. I used projective rounds established by Walters for these picks.
What I will do is present who Walters chose and then make my choice. As usual, I will give some explanation about my choice as well. For the sake of simplicity, 1W will refer to first round Walters pick and 1A, refers to first round awtysst's pick. 1W: Earl Thomas, FS Texas 1A: Earl Thomas, FS Texas I cannot improve this pick. Though CB Kyle Wilson is tempting, I see Thomas as too good of a prospect to pass on. I do not think he will really be here, but if he manages to be, I think we gotta take him. He represents an upgrade to our DB and has incredible ball hawking range. Impact starter. 2W: Jonathan Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech 2A: Brandon Ghee, CB, Wake Forest Do not like the Dwyer pick. He comes across as a potentially bad fdit for our system. For some reason I also see a "looks like tarzan, plays like jane" feeling when I look at his tape. I hope I am wrong, but he has potential bust written all over him. In contrast I pick up a very good CB. He is a big strong guy who can play solid man or zone coverage. He has good tackling ability and is not afraid to take any shots. He would be a starter opposite Glover. 3W:Patrick Robinson, CB, Florida State 3A:Lamarr Houston, DT, Texas I have no real issue with Robinson, its just that I already took Ghee. Plus, I have the potential to take a great DT with this pick. Remember what we are looking for in terms of a DT. We need a guy who can penetrate, not a big blobby 3-4 NT that stops the run. Houston showed some amazing DT work as a pentrator. He would be a perfect compliment to the run stopping Okoye. 4W:Mike Neal, DT, Purdue 4A: Javier Arenas, CB/KR, Alabama This was a tough one, as I liked both players. I ultimately went with Arenas becuase I see him as more useful. He would contribute right away on Special teams and be our return specialist. Neal would be an addition to the DT rotation of Houston, Smith, and Zygonia. I liked both players and think both would be great. 5. Joique Bell, RB Wayne State A solid runner. I need to see more tape on him though. I did not see any of his tape and 1 source claims he is a dancer and another says he is a guy who finds the hole and goes through. If he is the later, I take him, if not, I wont. That said he is a reasonably sized (212lbs) back. 6. Ted Larsen, C North Carolina St. A very underated Center that could be our starter of the future. He is a bigger Center(about 315 lbs) but he has great feet and can get to the second level. He is a smart guy and would need a little time to learn the system. Once he did, he would anchor the Oline for years. 6. Thomas Austin, OG/C Clemson A versatile OG/C for depth. He is another of the bigger OGs with good feet that I like to get for the ZBS. He would compete as backup and would give us the ability to eventually get rid of Studdard and Myers. 7. Javarris James RB Miami A guy that has a lot to prove. He had a lot of expectations that never materialized at the U. One problem he had was consistency. He needs to get himself focused. If he does, he has 3rd round talent. I think this is an excellent value pick.

I thought that Dwyer was a one cut runner? Isn't that what Kubiak wants?

Do you really think Robinson will be available in the 3rd? If so, I must be way off-base on him. I've got him somewhere in the top half of the 2nd.

I agree with most of your comments but have different guys. I want a running back much sooner than you. I was interested in Bell early on but has done nothing since to encourage me.

Hou-TEX, you have rated about where he will go but Walter is correct on where he should go. IMO. I do not have him on my mock.

5. Joique Bell, RB Wayne State, that one is much more likely. 'Course we said the same thing last year. they passed them all up.

A draft like this wouldn't bother me at all. Rd.1 Wilson Rd.2 Tate Rd.3 Newhouse Rd.4 Myron Lewis The running game and secondary that were the major things that wrong with the team IMHO are fixed. You can spend the rest of the draft geting the space eater DT, another RB. |
