Couldn't the Jets for example say that signing B.Scott could hurt their s future contract negotiations with David Harris. Or signing Leonhard could hurt them in re-signing Former all-pro K.Rhodes?

Or does he wanto run his organization like Mike Brown and the Bengals?

I don't think McNair wants to run his organization like either one! He's already stated a number of times before he wants an organization like the Steelers. What that means is they don't go wild throwing big at FA's all over the place. He's been there with CC. They want to build slowly through the Draft and pick a FA here and there that they think will help the team until they find somebody in future Drafts that can fill that spot. They may miss with the FA's they do pick (A Weaver, A Green, C Brown come to mind), but they are just stop gaps until we find another FA or a Draft pick to take their place. Yes it's slow and frustrating at times, but I think we're almost there!

We'll see if McNairs philosophy will work. It has been a great success financially.

But as far as winning and a great thing for the fans= Fail

This will be the year that will tell you if McNairs committed to winning. Because they are going to have to fill 5 gigantic holes if they want to make the playoffs. I cant see filling more than 3 or 4 tops in the draft.

Smithiak needs a vet on the OL,DL and maybe in the secondary. even though the FA DB's this year stink.

This draft id really strong in 3 of our weak areas, DT, S, OL and weak in RB's.

I would love to trade down and trade some of our future picks to gain as many picks as we could in the first 3 rounds of this draft.

The more I look at this draft the more I would love to trade out of the first round for a second and third round pick and even trade away a future pick or two for another 2nd rounder. That would give us 3 second round picks to pick from group A. And 2 third round picks to use on group B while most likely adding another 4th in the process. That would give us 11 picks in this draft with 5 coming in the top 3 rounds.

If future picks were traded for another 2nd rd pick you coul get 3 players from group A in rd1-2 and probably 2 players from group B in rds 3-4. IMO

This would fill most of the needs with guys that can start as rookies or provide great depth.

Depth is something the Texans have never had.

Next years draft is a weak one. IMO Now is the time to make moves to get as many draft picks as possible. Even if that includes trading future draft picks or playerson the roster.

Now I could get behind this if 31 other franchises don't see the same thing. Last couple years we've noticed an increase of activity, teams trading out of 2nd in exchange for next years #1. Seems a little aggressive for this team. Just as long as the front office is able to support its football operations by selecting the best player available to address key team need then it should be all good.

Agreed

Smithiak should only make this trade if somebody falls into the 2nd rd that they really like.

With Kubes being on the hot seat I could see the Texans doing a trade like this. Even though they haven't made moves like this in the past. A move like this should please McNair. He wouldn't have to pay 1st rd money in 2011.

I like the idea of trading the 2011 1st round pick for a high pick this year, but I don't think it has to be a 2nd round pick. I think the Colts, Vikings or the Saints may be willing to trade their 1st round pick for our 2011 1st round pick, since they will get more value out of it later. Those teams don't have any huge needs to fill and may be more willing to take a future pick than a 1-15 St. Louis or 5-11 Washington. Those teams need to turn things around ASAP.
