Quentin Groves on Brown Tipping Plays

When defensive end Quentin Groves was studying film last week, he noticed that the Texans left tackle Duane Brown was tipping the plays.

When Brown moved his leg back, it was going to be a pass. When he spread them, it was going to be a run.

So Groves, who got the starting nod at right end after being benched twice and overlooked once, knew the first play was going to be a pass when Brown moved his foot back.

He got a big rush on quarterback Matt Schaub, but missed him.

well, no kidding. You would have to be blind not to know Brown didn't tip plays but the Texans never worry about correcting this and when I first noticed it Kubiak was unaware when brought to his attention. We've even had fans call in and ask Kubiak about this on his Coaches show but he said he "wasn't aware of it and would have to look at the film". I put this right up with Casserly stating point blank that Carr didn't stare down receivers and if he did, it's just fans babbling about overrated nuances and all QB's stare down wr's.

Oh niiiiiiiiice. I remember that call in earlier in the year too to 610 on Kubiak's show and sure enough, he did respond like that.

So, NOBODY on our coaching staff realizes stuff like this - however the Texans' opponents and fans do. (I didn't for the record, but I'm not in the position that's supposed to look for this.)

SOMEONE NEEDS TO RELATE THIS TO THE COACHES.

When we discussed this last season, I was wonder the same question I am now?:

Could someone explain what he is doing differently than what a LT should do when it's a passing down and the LT is almost lined up in the backfield and in a two point stance... In other words, does Brown do something specific to tip a run on a passing down and to tip a pass on a run down?

If someone can look at the Colts game and the 3rd and 1 call before the half when AJ breaks off his route, I'd like to know if Brown tipped pass on that play.

Or, on the 3rd and 5 yesterday, when they ran the draw play to Chris Brown, does Brown tip the run there?

... after all, tackles set up differently situationally all the time. I'm not arguing, I'm just trying to better understand the accusation and what he does specificly.

The good news is Brown is pretty good even if he is tipping his plays . Just think what he'll be like when he corrects it .

a year ago Kubiak actually defended the fact that Brown lines up differently when a pass is called when brought up again (I think Cloak called in)...so it's not gonna be addressed I assume.

I guess that's sneakier than changing tackles completely on pass plays .

Vinny, could you explain this in more detail? Don't LTs always tip pass plays when they are 3 yards into the backfield and in a two point stance? What does Brown do differently than other LTs?
