I'm trying to get the word out there that I am looking for league openings.
I prefer dynsaty, non-idp, but could be swayed if the situation is enticing. I've been playing for almost 10 years and can offer references if necessary. |

individual defensive players. You draft Polamalu, DeMeco, Mario, etc. by position, then get points for each one's tackles, sacks, int's, or fumbles.
That's how my league works. I like it myself. You can build a defensive powerhouse with a few offensive stars and still be competitive. Other fans don't follow defense as well and the players are never in cheat sheets, so you can snap up elite players while other owners are looking for a backup QB they'll only start once. |

Cushing is my starter on defense and I'm loving it. In my league Cushing is currently the 3rd best IDP player in the league now right under Allen and Willis. |

Last year, for example, I started Willis and had Ware as my backup.

I picked mine rather late this year and went with Jonathan Vilma who was a total bust this year as a fantasy player. It's a lot harder to tell who certain IDP players will be the studs from year to year as far as points go I think. You never know how many FF's and INT's someone is going to get each year. So much luck involved with something like that. Tackles are much easier to gauge. Plus, there are so many IDP players that pop up out of nowhere that no one knows that end up being great players. Like my backup behind Cushing is Curtis Lofton whom I had never heard of, but he's in the top 8 of all defensive players with a 3 way tie at #5. He's been pretty consistent every week. He doesn't have the huge games, but he has nice consistent ones every week. Two weeks ago Cushing gave me 20 points which caused me to win with all of my other studs on Bye. I think Cushing will be a beast from here on out.

In general I look for IDP after I've filled out my starting offensive lineup. Definitely pre kicker (this year I didn't bother drafting a K). Sometimes before team D or TE -- depends on who is out there and where the runs have occurred to that point in the draft, as well as whether I am comfortable with all of my starters. I'd say somewhere between the 8th and 10th rounds these days, because the other owners in my league value defenders more than they used to. My league now also separates between defensive line and defensive backs though, starting 3 apiece. Some leagues only do 1 IDP at any position, which makes it much less valuable. Since there are only 14 teams or whatever in a league (thus only that many defenders drafted), you can find 1 elite defender much later on.
I've found that LBers and Safeties are way more valuable as IDP's, because they are consistent. They always get their tackles and usually manage to get a sack, fumble, or int sprinkled in. DE's and CB's are inconsistent. They'll get 2-3 sacks in a game or return an INT for a TD, then do nothing for a month. |
