Default Clayton's Cap space for all teams

Here is ESPN's Clayton's Cap Space projections. According to this projection we don't have too much left.

If that number is correct, the Texans have converted some signing bonus money into roster bonus to suck it up now and make more room available later.

This is as of April 1st, which is the day we cut Sharper...I don't think that the Sharper cut is represented in Clayton's report...

Quote- You have to consider that Carr, DD, Wong, Peek, Pitts, and Sharper are all free agents after this next season. I don't know if they are UFA or RFA. I'm sure someone does, though. These players are more important to the long term success than the ones listed above.

I thought when we signed Davis Carr, we signed him for 7 years... Can some1 verify this info?

Carr's contract has a built in option after the fourth year (this year) where the Texans can extend him two or three more years to make it a six or seven year deal. The terms of the option/extension are already set from the initial negotiations of his deal. If the Texans choose the two year option, he would get a $5.5 million bonus prior to the '06 season and carry base salaries of $5 million and $5.25 million in '06 and '07. If the Texans choose the three year option, Carr would get a bonus of $8 million and base salaries of $5.25 million in '06 and '07, and $6 million in '08. Or they could choose not to extend him at all after 2005 but that probably won't happen. He is now getting paid like a top ten QB so it's time for him to become a top ten QB.

DD and Peek will be eligible for RFA if not extended prior to March 1.

Pitts and Wong will be eligible for UFA if not extended prior to March 1.

Sharper was released a few weeks ago and is now a Seahawk.

I split this off the stickied Unofficial Salary Cap link. Kris Brown Signed today and Keith is going to upload a new revised cap page tomorrow.

Speaking of guys who need to play to their salaries, Steve McKinney was the 5th highest cap hit of centers in 2004. Zach Wiegert had the 7th highest of guards. Both are due raises over 33% in '05.

McKinney & Wiegert won't get meaningful competition in camp. The 5th rounder from ASU won't be ready. If Weary or Milford Brown could've pushed them for a spot, they'd have done it by now. It's McKinney & Wiegert's job to solidify the middle of the line. They've been getting paid like top 10 linemen. Past time that they play like it.

I agree that anything on that site has to be taken with a grain of salt but I'd bet that most hardcore football fans still visit it from time to time .... yea they have plenty of gossip but they're also pretty quick to bring up topics that the mainsteam sites won't touch for fear of angering the powers that be ... how many of us heard about Ron Mexico days before ESPN and FOX had small blurbs hidden in the wire section because of reading it there? Most of the stories I've read about the Texans had a link to the Chronicle embedded so it's not like they're making everything up ..... For that check out thebrushback.com .... that site is hilarious ....
