NEW YAWK GINTS SELECT: DARIUS HEYWARD-BEY, WR, MARYLAND
![]() The G-Men really don't need too much help anywhere in particular, but a big play WR would be very useful with Plaxico's future in the NFL in jeopardy. Heyward-Bey has the size and speed to be the big play WR that the Giants could use.

Nice, English was my pick from the start. A 3-4 OLB to put some heat on.

I'll make the pick tonight. Watching 24 now. DO NOT interrupt me or else Jack will hunt me down, kill me, interrogate each of you, then finish this entire 7 round mock draft, fly to China, destroy their terrorists, fly back, use the restroom and then probably play some golf... in less than a day.

With the 32nd selection in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select Duke Robinson, OG, Oklahoma.
![]() Analysis: Really just came down to the best available player on the OL, any of the 5 spots. I think this could be a little high for Robinson, personally, but he would be a great fit for the Steelers OL scheme.

Super Mario will be out of pocket until tomorrow and he left me his pick.
With the first pick of the second round and #33 overall the Detroit Lions are already vested with their QB and LT for the future. With glaring needs still all over the defense, but with some investment in FA in the secondary and at DT the pick here points to a LB, but where is the value at #33 for the LB position? The Detroit Lions selected a freak from Georgia Tech two years ago and select one this year in 6'7'' 250 lb DE Michael Johnson

I don't think that's too high for Duke Robinson, I like this pick a lot.

So what's been the biggest reach through round one? Ithink Beatty, even though he's a great prospect.

Beatty going ahead of Britton was one. The other would be Butler going before Moore & Smith. The surprise fall was Maybin... I really don't expect him to go in round 2.

Yeah. I'm also wondering how a playmaker like Harvin hasn't been picked up. He's pretty lethal in the open field.

FWIW, he also went in the second round of our last mock.

He's gone in the 2nd of every mock I've participated in... and I've done a lot of them. Britt went ahead of him in another one. I thought that was weird, but I guess people are a bit scared of him being undersized. The guy's SUCH a playmaker though.

Harvin is a little bit overrated by the internet gurus.
As a pure WR, there are at least six guys who are more refined and run better routes(Crabtree, Nicks, Maclin, Heyward-Bey, Britt, Robiskie, maybe more...). His value is his versatility but I think a lot of GM's learned their lesson by watching Reggie Bush's career so far. Bush is a supremely talented athlete, but he doesn't have a true position, much like Harvin. A team with few holes (Colts maybe) could afford to take him as a 1st rounder and let him just return kicks until he catches up to the other WR's in the class. |
