Man we need to go after the best Free Safety in Free Agency O.J. Atogwe and draft a head hunting Strong Safety in the 2nd or 3rd round. I am tired of these no name players who get killed every season on the back end of the defense. We need to stop being cheap and bring in some first rate talent in free agency and stop wasting money on these 2nd rate free agents.

I would pick a rb in 3rd or 4th round........unless we can sign a good free agent......one with some size.....for those short yardage situations......

I think we've had just about enough of free agent running backs for awhile. I think we're going to pick up a RB in the 4th or 5th round unless we trade back in the first and get more picks.

The needs list is simple - anything defense. You can't pick a position on defense that we don't need: DE, DT, LB, CB, SS, FS.

My list was made in order of importance for this upcoming draft. I agree I think we should go to back traditional SS/FS roles and get one of each. I also think that Eugene Wilson did a decent job, not great, at FS this past year and deserves another year in the position. In order to improve our run defense SS along with SLB should be addressed before FS. I also think that next years group of FS will be much better than this year and we can address FS next year. Hopefully we can trade up and get Eric Berry from Tennessee. JMO. |

I would also argue that we have need at Center, complimentary RB, and OG. All told thats 9 spots(10 if you include both OLB positions). We need to pursue solid players in FA and draft intelligently seeking BPA (unless its a QB, WR, K, P, or FB). It might be that we go with some offensive players or are able to fill holes in the FA. Hard to say right now though.

We need to draft the best defensive player available with each pick unless there's a better offensive lineman (1) or power runner available (1) in the round. We could use improvement at every position, so we should just add more talent, more play makers on the defensive side.

Listening to the local NC radio last night, they were talking panthers, and it was midway through the segment when I tuned in, but the talk was about Peppers being traded away. It's very debatable what compensation the Panthers would be looking for. Their glaring need is to replace a 34 year old QB. I don't know if Houston would ever fall into the mix, but definately an intriguing sign to hear out of the local radio that it's potentially feasible. It could be argued that we'd have to give up a lot to attract Carolina into something, but barring a Hershel Walker type trade, the concept of Mario/Peppers on the ends sure seems like it would change the complexion of the remaining defensive needs. I'm sure Peyton Manning wouldn't approve.

glad you asked. Bertrand Berry, from Houston. he was a free agent signed 03-06-04 (inserted date because we're about one month away from free agency, after combine). went to the pro-bowl first season (04) big problem for him has been injurys, has 29.0 sacks in his 43 starts. they also drafted Calais Campbell DE out of Miami in 2nd rd. last draft who is transitioning nicely & should play a much larger role as he develops in the future.
that being said, their primary pass rusher comes from RDT Darnell Dockett, projected DE drafted out of Florida State in the 3rd rd. 6-4 285 but because of injurys he set's up on right side of RG. I'm sure Casserly loved this guy because the Texans went back to the well in 05 selecting Travis Johnson. so my young apprentice, these are some possible selections-

Adibi had 14 tackles and 13 solo in the first game he started versus Indy. If healthy we are not in bad shape. Adibi has not proven he can stay healthy, not his fault but that's the case. Diles however was very solid until his freak practice injury. I doubt they will be looking to improve both positions. I wouldn't be surprised if we draft a LB with our first pick if it's BPA even if it's someone designed to play inside. It seems apparent to me that it will be DL or LB though with the first pick. There is no S that is good enough to draft that early.
