I would suggest that we use the draft value chart, such as below, and not players. But I will defer to Super Mario.

I concur, trade for draft picks only. I'd love to include players but it'd get too difficult and unrealistic. I would like to add for a team trading up significantly, the use of a 2010 1st round pick or other future picks might be a smart move.

Yup, that was the follow-up question. So no current players, but draft picks including future picks is acceptable?

"Fairness" is relative when it comes to the trade value chart. It's not like everyone in the NFL believes in and uses the chart.

That was always my rule with my multi-participant mocks in the past. If you allow it, there is always someone who wants to make some ridiculous multi player trade with future draft picks that is not realistic due to salary cap reasons....keep it simple.

Look at it this way, if you are the one who is desperate to trade up or down, then prepare to get the short end of the stick.

For the most part, trading draft picks is pretty fair. The problems arise when you can't exactly match the point values and the guy giving up just a little bit more can't deal with that.

So it's going to be a three round mock draft, right? I wouldn't want to trade for a fourth or fifth rounder if we're not going that far.

I understand all of that. My point is - to use the chart assumes that everybody accepts the chart - and everybody in the NFL does not. When you trade up, you're almost always going to get screwed - and that's fine if you're dead set on a player you want. Putting the chart into play is going to make people think they're getting screwed even when they aren't getting screwed when you look at it as a real-life NFL situation.

Honestly, I don't see the point of even allowing for trades if we're only doing three rounds... but I'm fine with it either way. I think there will be a lot of trading simply for the sake of trading.

Anyway - it's just for fun. I don't even know why I'm bothering to type this much, LOL.

Can we give bonus points for picking up extra picks or something? I'm just trying to bring up every possibility so there are no questions when picks start.

The chart just makes trading that much more realistic to what NFL GM's do. It's up to the partners to decide what is fair or not.

That was pretty much my question. There would be no reason to get a 4th rounder when there is only three rounds in this mock draft. If we were going deeper in this mock and I wanted to trade back I might want a late 1st, late 2nd & a 6th, but since we aren't going deeper there would be no reason to want a sixth.

I get where you are coming from now. I agree.

I don't plan on trading with anyone so y'all might as well not even bother asking.

I never include trades in my mock drafts and I think that most trades that happen in these things are done by people who just want to "shake things up".

As far as people trading picks after the 3rd round, how about if you trade any picks that can't be used in the mock then the trade is nullified?

Makes sense. The only reason I like the fact that we can trade is because if there is noone I like there at 16 for SD I would want to trade back & pick up a 2nd because they don't have one. I can personally see them trading back for a 2nd if the person they like is gone or they feel like they can get him later in the first.
