You gotta admit that it is a little funny that if a team goes 8-8 that it is a given that you will sell out.
Wait. Was it not the Titan fan base that trotted out VY as some sort of saviour cus he took the Titans to an 8-8 season his rookie year?

What ever happen to that Vince Young guy anyhow?

You wouldn't understand. You didn't live and die with a team for several decades until they were ripped away from you. You were handed a team on a silver platter, and got a super bowl appearance almost right away.

Football is huge in Texas. We have more high school football fans than the state of Tennessee has football fans period.

Houston vs Nashville?

With Houston having 4 million plus in the area, plus some of the largest companies in the country, there shouldn't be any reason for lack of sellouts.

Which is probably more than the whole state of Tennessee, hence the reason they had to be called the Tennessee Titans and not the Nashville Titans.

The Tennessee Oilers moved when they were 2-14 and had just promoted a coach at mid season they were hardly a power house much less a contender. We did not get the benefit of a supplementary draft like the Texans did.

Well good for you. California's high school football scene doesn't compare to Virginia or Texas though.

Please! The coach of the team has been offered coordinator positions in the NFL for many seasons. He currently hold the record in the country for most consecutive wins ... guess who's record he beat?

Currently MJD, Toomer, and DJ Williams are playing in the NFL all products of that system.

While CA has a lot of high schools there are several that are considered the tops amount the nation in teams.

What are you talking about? The Titans went to the superbowl in 2000 and VY was a rookie in 2006.

I wonder if they still have that "I want to rescue Vince from Tennessee!!!" thread over on the orangeblood forum.

That thread was pretty funny.

I was talking about how we started as the 'Titans" ... you know stealing a team and all

The Titans were in rebuild and were nowhere near a Super Bowl caliber team when they moved. If you were to read some of the comments it seems like we had a playoff team at the bring of the Super Bowl.

I believe California, Texas and Florida consistently lead the nation in the number of high school players that go on and play in college.

As far as fan interest and tradition. I have no idea, I only know the State of Texas.

No.. You benefited from having the fact that Steve McNair had already been drafted. Eddie George had been drafted. Frank Wychek was there, and many of the pieces of a once dominating O-line were still in place. The defense wasn't really that bad. Blaine Bishop anyone? Barron Wortham, Gary Walker, Darrell Lewis. BTW, special teams weren't all that bad either, Al Del Greco, Reggie Roby and Mel Gray. Tennessee had just drafted Derrick Mason (R) that off-season.

BTW, the expansion draft for the Texans was different than other expansion drafts in that the Texans were required to spend almost 40% (or about $28 million) of their cap space -or-required to draft 30 guys in the draft alone.

Apples to apples? Hardly.

Next?

You beat me to it. How can a self-identified Titans fan not remember these players? Good grief, they were given a team with a Hall-of-Fame offensive lineman in Bruce Matthews and Pro-Bowlers in Brad Hopkins and Mark Stepnoski, along with a young stud RB and a third-year QB who was drafted third overall.

Yeah, that 8-8 team they stole really had it rough.

So the two years in TN under the Oiler name was still an Oiler team? Houstonians had a strange way of showing it not going to the last games in the Dome. When the team moved it was coming off of a 2-14 season and looked in collapse. The reason they were able to draft McNair and George was the horrible record the seasons leading up to it. While a lot of players were on that team several more came after the movie. Mason Bill? Really you are talking up a guy who had 8 Rec and 89 Yrds our Super Bowl season. What would we have done without him?

You're not very good at this, are you? The Oilers were 7-9 and 8-8 before they made the move to Tennessee. The 2-14 season was in '94, Pardee's last year as head coach.
