Wow, the draft is just two weeks away. I agree with him that we need touchdown scorers and touchdown preventers. He stated that we will look @ corner and wide out in 1st. We will pick up lb or corner in later rounds, and hopefully won't need ROLB in 1st because we have Peek. Hopefully he can develop. We have two speed guys in Greenny and Peek and heavier guys (250 plus) in Babin and Wong. Hopefully 2nd year in scheme will aid the Oline. They can't be worse.

They'll be better in both pass protection and run blocking. In the last few games of 2004 they really started to look more effective opening holes for DD and I think that's going to continue in 2005. If we can run the ball from the beginning of the season then we're going to have less of the defense just pinning their ears back and coming after Carr. At times last season looked a lot like 2002. With no running game (or not much of one) at times we were in a very similar position to our first year. Hopefully we don't see that again.

Also, we are supposedly going to use more shorter timing routs to get the ball out quiker. Is this going to look like some sort of modified WCO? Farve throws alot of short and intermediat and then will go deep. Kind of sounds like what we are preparing to do. I think the reads are the key in the WCO and we may not be doing that as I think they are kind of complicated to get down. Just ask Harrington. With less time needed for plays to develope, that SHOULD result in fewer sacks as the line doen't have to hold the blocks as long.

I loved how Justice refused to even get involved in McLame's beauty queens conversation. ROFLMAO. That'a boy Justice, you keep on the straight and norrow Politically Correct line.

I keep asking myself why McLame thinks we are going to go with a WR or CB with the first pick. Especially since he makes the comments that the positions are very deep this year in the draft and we could find good value of either one in the second round.

So if that position is so deep wouldn't we snag up a first round position that didn't have good value in the second round and beyond?

there are no guarantee's after the draft starts, so it could be better to grab them while they are still there (rolle, williamson, rodgers, etc.). and i think the main difference between a first and seocnd round choice is the difference between someone who can make an impact imediately and one who see's limited time intially, and is groomed to make an impact sometime after their rookie season

Things should start to become a bit clear as the draft is just around the corner.

you know i could really see this happening...corner and reciever being our first two picks...then o-line, d-line, and linebackers the rest of the way...maybe a runningback late in the draft...i could see something like this happening where we trade down with kansas city so they can get marcus spears giving us an extra 3rd rounder giving us something like this

I am going to pre-face this with my 'cop-out' excuse and say that I am no draft expert. In fact this is a very weak point in my resume'. But I just read an article that rated teams basically on the number of starts of thier rookie players. We had 41 rookie starts last year. It was a truly amazing stat compared to the rest of the league. Now I can excuse some of this by the mentality that we are an expansion team and need to build through the draft. But the article particularly alluded to the fact that the teams with the majority of the rookie starts were definitely considered a team in the building process of making it to the playoffs, and definitely NOT in a playoff type mode. I don't want to put the Texans into that catagory next year, personally. I want rookies that are drafted and have a chance, albeit very slim, to learn BEFORE they take the field, thus minimizing the number of rookie starts for the Texans overall.

Surely by year 4 we have built a foudation to allow us to develop players for the future and not throw a rookie into the lineup immediately?

i would say take a c/g in the 2nd like bass, then get a reciever in the 3rd such as t. murphy or brown.

I would note that our three rookie starters were some of our best defensive players this year. The prior year, we had two rookie offensive starters who both had good seasons. Our problem isn't our rookies, our problem is underperforming veterans with big contracts. And Left Tackle, but you knew that already.
