I'm in STL and he is a fast ILB, yet tends to make mental mistakes. We should go after him to add speed to team.

are the rams 4-3 or 3-4. to me it doesnt matter though because I think polley has a lot of potential for the Texans and he could really improve our depth at linebacker.

Is Polley available??? I feel that Robert Thomas and Tommy Polley are two often overlooked LBs.

Polley's stats are very underwhelming and if the Rams weren't interested in him, why should we be? I was high on him coming out of FSU, but he hasn't really put it all together in the NFL yet...

I have never really paid attention to him, but his stats seem ok, and yes I know you can't base everything on stats, in '01 he had 86 tackles, in '02 (12 games) he had 58 tackles and 2 forced fumbles, in '03 (14 games) he had 68 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 4 INT's , in '04 (15 games) he had 78 tackles, 1 forced fumble and 2 sacks. Does he have a problem with durability or anything? I say we at least bring him in and evaluate him.

His stats dont really prove much. When you watch him play, he's all over the field and making big time plays. With that said, I really dont think he fits in well in the Rams system. His pass rushing skills are very solid, but also very underused in that defensive scheme.

My name may make me seem a little biased but I dont think you can ever have enough LBs. I think we have the potential to have a very strong LB group regardless if we get DJ. Polley seems like a good fit only if it is for depth and we do not invest too much in him.
Is it just me or is our front office molding the texans into an organization similar to the patriots? EX: Deffensive minded Head Coach, depth youth and speed at LB, and a group of selfless players playing for the team and not themselves.

Polley has very good initial quickness and top-end speed. He will have to be protected, but he's a guy you need to get in space to see how athletic he really is. Sideline-to-sideline type skills with the closing speed to track down a lot of plays from behind. He has potential to be a playmaker if turned loose more on the blitz. However, Polley has durability and consistency issuesHe is a little bit too much of a finesse li acker who isn't aggressive or tough enough. He is at his best when turned loose upfield but he has a tendency to take himself out of plays by getting too far upfield. Polley will also have to improve his consistency and leverage at the point of attack. Overall, Polley shows some flashes because of his quickness and speed off the edge, but he's never been consistent enough. http://proxy.espn.go.com/nfl/players...g?statsId=5489 |

I'd be happy to give him a one year deal and see what he does because our ILB corps maybe Greenwood, Polk, Wong (is he switching or not cause I think I remember reading that he said him moving inside was just a rumor) and Troy Evans.

Didn't Polley get injured toward the end of last season? I don't recall seeing him in the Rams playoff game.

Well, lets put it this way. I would have rather us signed Polley then Chamberlin and all of these other ILB who the most action they have seen is on special teams. This guy has great atheltic ablility and if coached up right, could make an impact. If no other teams is interested, why not take a shot?

Truthfully, Polley is an averag linebacker. Some times he''ll make a decent play but more often then not he gets consumed by blockers of any size and has trouble tackling some times. He probably wouldn''t be bad for depth on a team that controls up front blockers like Baltimore does that lets linebackers roam untouched usually. He''s not going to make it on his own though.
This is a what a friend in STL emailed me about Tommy Polley: the reason why no one has picked up polley is cause he can''t play the run. He''s solid against the pass. but against the run he''s VERY soft. He lacks toughness. He had a great rookie yr but since then he''s fell the @#$& off. i hope the texans pick him up. then steven jackson''s gonna run in down your throat and then you can scream at him from your TV set. I know I did all last yr and alot the yr before that. |
