Here's mine:
First I want to state I think all the Texans and staff are great human beings and all below is not a personal attack. Stuck with Smith/Kubiak for at least 3 years because they are really great guys. We will be told 12-4 is the next step to the SB but as some know, more now than 4 games ago, this team is going in the wrong direction. Smith has been made out to be some wizard but I think in the biggest decision he had was to not trade Mario and get value. The Cowboys build a dynasty by trading Walker and we get basically nothing for Mario. I know we would not have gotten any where near what the Cowboys got but we might have gotten enough cap space to keep our Oline and maybe a 2nd or 3rd draft choice. Also we extended Matt before seeing him play out the season. We are now stuck with him not just because of the contract but because Kubiak is going nowhere. Due to the great management of the salary cap by the wizard we really can't do much next year to really improve. We may be told again for the 3rd year that our WRs of the future are on the team now. What is the real answer to our present WRs other than Walter and AJ. I think they are knowns. Walter is a 3rd if you want to be nice and Aj is still very good but getting older. Are our other current WRs (a) no good, (b) not getting good coaching (c) Ok but our all pro QB won't go to them because he is only focused on the others Our Oline has a chance of maybe getting better next year. Our RBs are above average but I do think Foster has lost some of the fire or should I say dedication during the offseason to be great like last year. A lot may be due to line play but??? TE average to above average. Our offense at the skill positons are not quick and explosive but some of that may be due to our QB . I see Matt as the QB for the next couple or more years barring injury because I don't see Kubiak leaving. Matt and Kubes tied at the hip as someone else said. With Matt at QB I could see the Texans contending for a playoff spot for the next couple of years with no real chance to be in the SB. Matt is OK during the season but when the teams get better in the playoffs he is just too limited physically to make the offense effective. With him many things we may want to do on offense we can't because he can't. With this future for the offense i am not sure it matters what the defense's future is. Could be better, could be the same, or could be worse. It needs to be GREAT for the Texans to be competitive during the season. Once the playoffs start I am afraid great may not be good enough with our offense as I see it. I see a change in FO/coaching in three to four years. I think we will compete for a wild card spot behind the Colts after next year. I think it will be back to the same old fight for the playoffs after next year. I think we may be able to win the division once more if all goes well. Someone else give me their take and raise my hopes. |

I believe we will get a compensatory pick for Mario. Trades are just not what they used to be with the way Free agency is structured.
We need an o line. I am less concerned about WRs. If we are unable to get a running game going, we are going to have a lot of seasons with the worst 3rd down conversion percentage and struggles in games. O line upgrade needs to happen. I believe Quin is a FA. We will either need to resign (expensive) or move someone to FS or get a FS in the draft. Right now we probably need a OLB to replace Barwin because we probably won't resign him unless he takes a pay cut. This team will need to reload some of its players depending on who we let walk. But right now our O line is my #1 priority. We get an o line I think we are going to get a #1 seed next year. |

You know what's depressing? Matt S. will be a yr older, less mobile, less accurate, less resilient and more likely to lay down on any amount of contact. AJ, OD, AF all one yr older.
The only positive I can think of is Brian Cushing coming back at hopefully 90% or better. Will we lose Watt eventually like Mario Williams hmmm?

If we are going to have a QB competition we need someone signed capable of being a starter. If you are talking about Yates I don't think that kid has what it takes to be a starter. The turnover issue he has shown just are too much for anyone to trust their seasons hopes on his shoulders.

Since you all are in B12 territory, how do we feel about Collin Klein? Not to come in and start right away, but as a mid-late rounder. Theoretically speaking Kubiak is a QB coach, and most of what I've seen and read about Klein are that his problems lie with his mechanics. This is the new breed of QB in the league, like it or not.. Could even reinvent the offense like SF and Wash have done.
Just a thought.. |

Watt is LOADS better than Mario ever was. Higher motor. Same size. Stronger. Faster. Not injury ridden. Watt is a guy you hang on to and pay. He is the guy we will build our defense around for the next ten years. If we let Watt walk a la Mario, I will be reconsidering the amount of time, emotion, and money I put into the Texans as I wouldn't think they truely want to win.

Secondly, I don't think Winston should have ever gotten a $5m/yr contract. He's never played at that level. We never should have franchised Dunta. Definite waste of money. Quote:
We've still got a problem at outside pass rush, unless two of the three OLBs on this team really turn it on in the play-offs, we are going to have to address this issue in the draft..... the proven talent is way too expensive in the offseason. I think our WR need trumps our OLB needs, but I thought the same thing last year. The Texans may not. Quote:
We don't have enough TEs. We run a three TE offense with only two TEs on the roster. Quote:
I still think we win the division at least three of the next 4 years. It won't be easy. But it hasn't been easy for the Ravens the last 3 years either. Just because Luck is Jesus in cleats, doesn't mean he won't be looking up at us. Quote:
Nobody remembers number 2 & they've been the second best team in the NFL for quite some time now. Personally, I'd love to be #2........ not at the expense of being number one, but you know what I mean. Right now, I think we're the 6th, maybe 8th best team in the NFL & I see us improving on that over the next 5 years at least.
