Brice McCain broken foot

How long will he be out?

This late in the season, can we count on him to be back "effectively" in the play-offs?

I guess it's time for Harris to step up; it's not like McCain is having a great year anyway (not knocking him at all).

Maybe we'll see a little more Nickel than Dime now, especially with the Pats not having their premier TE in the line-up.

A first round bye would mean he could be ready for the first playoff game.

Not a bad option. I would guess it depends on Jonathan Joseph's status and maybe Ball too. The good thing about the secondary is the flexibility because you have essentially two corners at safety. If Joseph is back then Quin or Manning could play the slot. It was Manning's speciality with the Bears before the final move to safety.

I would suspect though that Harris would get the nickle duties as he didn't look bad last game. Heh, in fact, he had the highest coverage rating on PFF for our secondary players last game surprisingly enough. But your suggestion would work as Demps could start and Nolan take over Demps previous duties while Quin held opposite of KJ. Really like the flexibility but I think Harris may be able to handle slot.

Then again...that is Wes Welker so that would be a heck of a step up for Harris. They do say it's best to just leap in the pool rather than dipping your toe in.

I don't think we need to make any changes right off the bat. Signing Nolan makes sense, but he'll sit on the bench while Quin, Manning, & Demps hold down the safety spot.

We've still got enough CBs to field two starters & a nickel. Kj, Roc, Harris. The problem is if someone gets hurt.

Then you can move Quin to Corner & bring Shilo in as your joker. Or move Manning to CB & let Nolan spy.

It's difficult to try to figure out what PART of the foot was fractured (metatarsal vs toe), but most uncomplicated and undisplaced foot fractures can and are treated nonsurgically with a healing period anywhere from 4-6 weeks. If it is a displaced, multiple or comminuted (splintered) fracture, surgery is usually performed to stabilize with pins, screws or plates. Healing period can be considered possible as soon as 6 weeks, but not unusually 8 weeks or longer depending on the circumstances. We've seen some players come back from a lower leg fracture as soon as 6 weeks, but the stress placed on the leg is very much different than on a foot. And there is a matter of getting back into playing shape. I'm not sure how prepared he will be to jump up and down and push off with his foot even with a protective nonyielding orthotic he will likely be wearing. How all of this impacts and plays into a "desirable" return to effective play in 6 weeks is at best unpredictable.

Kubiak said McCain had a screw put in his foot if that helps. =)

Feb 2011, The Raiders gave him a 3 year 31 million dollar contract, but he renegotiated so the Raiders could keep him because the Raiders were having a real cap problem. In 15 games, he had 4 interceptions. The Chiefs picked him up and gave him a 20 million dollar 3 year deal this Feb. After missing his last game the end of October, he was released by the Chiefs with a hamstring injury. He had already accumulated 2 interceptions. KC's head coach was not specific in the reasons for the move other than saying the "relationship wasn't progressing as quickly and fast as I wanted it to." Sounds like some personality conflicts.

At 29, he sounds like he still has something in the tank........just ended up on the wrong teams. Could be a very interesting pickup. Remember, before Chris Johnson ran a Combine 4.24 40 (2008), Routt held the fastest run at 4.27 (2005)
