Nice article about Foster. I still worry though about how his body will hold up to the NFL grind on a vegan diet. The vegans I've seen and known, and it's a very small number, have been very thin. Not much muscle mass. I'm wondering if Foster will start losing his muscle mass and density as the season and his career move forward.
One famous vegan athlete I remember was Bill Walton who played in the NBA for a number of years. He had 1 championship season with Portland and that may have been his only healthy season. It seemed he was always breaking bones and missing large parts of the other seasons he played, and this was basketball, not football. Of course there are always other factors that can come into play like genetics and modern sports medicine, but for the most part I don't think the vegan diet is good for a pro athlete. I guess we'll find out this season. |
