Default My 7 round Texans mock draft.

I tried to make this as realistic as possible, for that reason I do not have us taking somebody like Kendall Wright or Whitney Mercilus in the 1st round. Kendall Wright’s 40 time is meaningless…he has too much good tape, and after Mercilus’s pro day I doubt that a guy who is seen to have the ability to be a 3-4 olb and led the nation in sacks will be available at 26.

Round 1. Peter Konz C - Guy is a stud, very low bust probability, will probably be BPA at 26, and he could probably start from day one if we don't resign Myers or Brisiel. Also if somebody goes down, we were really lucky as far as lack of interior line injuries last year, he could step in and play a lot better than Caldwell.

Round 2. Harrison Smith SS - I'm hoping this guy slips to us. He would allow us to part ways with Dominique Barber and or Shiloh Keo, provide quality depth, and maybe even challenge Glover Quin.

Round 3. Jared Crick DE – Solid player who had good college career and would have been drafted higher had it not been for the old pectoral muscle injury. I see him as the eventual replacement for Antonio Smith.

Round 4. Bruce Irvin OLB – This guy needs to put on some weight and he does not seem to be good against the run but if you put this guy in on 3rd down and tell him to rush the passer I think that he can be pretty dangerous. I have high hopes for Braman so I don’t have us taking a OLB in the first two rounds. I assume that Mario will be gone because a lot of teams have a TON of cap space.

5. Nick Jean-Baptiste NT – Big Fatty to draw double teams. Would be amazing if he developed into anything close to a guy like Ahtyba Rubin.

6. Adrien Cole ILB – WAC Defensive player of the year who is a 2 down thumper. He is a hard hitter with solid college production.

7. Randy Bullock K – Good college kicker who could replace or provide competition for Neil Rackers .

PS. I know I don’t have a WR in this mock draft. My reasoning is that we need a starting, not backup WR and I just don’t see Stephen Hill as a day 1 starter. In order to get a day one starter I think we will have to trade up to 18. The Bears draft at 19 and have nothing at WR. I am really hoping that we get Eddie Royal on the cheap. I think he would be a lot better than anybody in the draft not named Blackmon, Floyd, or Wright. Blast away!!!

It's not a bad mock, you've got some good players and filled some positions of need. You missed our biggest need though at WR. Also I don't think there any way Irvin fall to the late 4th round, I think he goes in the 2nd round. I'm not a fan of Crick either, I think he'll be some solid depth but never a starter.

I like this mock even though I would add a receiver (I don't know who) in the mid round. I just don't see a rookie receiver coming in and making a big impact. I'm not saying it can't happen but I don't think it's very likely. Rookie receivers are very inconsistent and it takes a while for them to adjust to the pro game. At this stage, the Texans have to get a guy who can make an impact right away.

This is part of the reason that I don't think we will take a WR at the end of the first round.

If we take a WR I think it will be in the 2nd or later and they will have a niche role to start off with.

I don't think Kubiak is going to have a rookie WR taking too many snaps away from KW..

And to be honest, Jacoby is probably a better option at WR than a lot of WR's we could get in the 3rd round and later.

I really think Kubiak is looking for another guy to lean on like he can Andre. KW never was that, despite putting up good numbers for a couple seasons.

If Jacoby was cut, who would pick him up?

You think he is looking to find that guy as a rookie at pick #26?

I don't see that. Maybe he likes some guy and thinks he can develop into that type or similar player to Andre down the road, but I disagree that Kubiak is going to be looking for that guy at pick#26 to come in and be that guy as a rookie.

And I think Jacoby would actually get picked up by someone...

I think that WR is our #1 need too. I think we need somebody that is better than Walter. The thing is I don't believe that Floyd or Wright is will be available at 26. You could take Hill but my opinion is that he won't be ready so start on day 1. I also think that we could get Eddie Royal for cheap and that he would be able to produce and stretch the field next year. Eddie Royal is only 25 and when Shanahan was his coach and Cutler was his QB he almost had 1,000 yards his his rookie season. When Josh McDaniels and Orton arrived his numbers went to $%@#.

Yep, I should have Bruce Irvin going in round 3 and Jared Crick in round 4. I don't think that Crick is going to be the second coming of J.J. Watt but I do believe that he could be groomed for 2 years and become a solid starter when Antonio Smith becomes an UFA.

I think you guys have severely underrated Jared Crick.

You are right. His senior year he missed some spring practice and then tore his pectoral muscle in the 3rd game of the year. His sophomore and junior year stats were really good.

Junior year; 70 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and 17 tackles for loss.

Sophomore year; 73 tackles, 9.5 sacks, and 15 tackles for loss.

We are underrating him. Would be a steal in the late 3rd round. Missing practically his whole senior year really messed up his draft stock.

This. Crick won't be there in the third, someone is dumb enough to gamble on Harrison Smith before we nab him in the second with such a weak safety class. Baptiste won't be there in the 5th, and WR hasn't been addressed. i like the picks, just don't think they're realistic.

Enjoyed your effort but here are some thoughts.

I don't see Smithak allowing Myers leave & if he is here, I would not draft A center round one. I also don't see any WRs @26.

SS Nowhere near a top 3 round need. I'd go Winston Guy in 4th

Crick lost my attention and NFL two seasons ago & why he went back to school after considering coming out early.
I'm cool with Baptiste and have Cole on my most recent mock. Hell of a ILB.
