In 08 CJ had 250 carries, and put some amazing numbers.
Last year his workload was increased to 350, and his numbers got even better. This year his numbers are way down, and his carries are still high. He's on pace for close to 400 carries this year. (375 currently I think). There have been more than a few instances where NFL teams have ridden a running back into the ground by giving them ~400 touches a year. LJ put up 2 amazing years with 330 and then 416 carries. He was never the same. Turner put up an amazing season where he rushed 375 times. He missed a lot of time the following season. I wonder if CJ is going to join that list I think part of the reason guys like LT have lasted so long is theyve had their carries managed well. LT never carried it for >350

I hope they run him so far into the ground that he thinks he's a freakin' gopher.

its inevitable in fisher's run-run pass scheme. the only reason george lasted as long was b/c he's a bigger back. CJ is all of what 195-200 lbs so the decline will be rapid imo.
Last year he didn't take too many shots as he was running by everyone for 60 & 70 yarders. This year, teams are just not letting him beat them & are getting good shots in on him by stacking the box. even when he is running well, he's paying for it. |

Well, it'd rather run Chris Johnson into the ground, or let this guy have the game in his hands:

Ricky Williams would be another burn out example. The Dolphins fan him 383 his first season and he was effective at 4.8 ypc. They tried to ride him the next year with 392 carries but his effectiveness was way down at 3.5 ypc. I always figured that played into his other burn out issues.

I made a comment on NFL.com about this last night and drew the ire of some inbred Titans fan named "ChrisJohnsonFan28" who seemed incapable of getting out of his own way long enough to look at the facts. Johnson was a fool to talk about getting another 2,000 yards this year. 2,000 yard rushers always have a down year after they go through that grind. As a Texans fan I'm ok with seeing him experience a shortened period of effectiveness brought on by his team overusing him. We may have to spend a decade and a half with Peyton Manning but Chris Johnson will be gone in another couple of years at this pace.
As a football fan I think it's a shame that teams often run players like him into the ground the way they do.
