What do you do when you change the O-line

blocking scheme and it doesn't work? That's the problem the Texans are having. Capers bought hook line and sinker the changes in the blocking scheme to aid DD even though they say not. Now they are facing a big problem, because the opposition defense is finding big holes to get to Carr. The line splits are greater in the new offense which is designed to aid the run, not the pass. We went away from our strength. Last year DD got a lot of yardage out of an O-line scheme set up more for the pass than the run. That's why he was affective. Sorry, but until we change that we are in deep dodo. We have more and better receivers than RB's. In fact with Hollings out again, I believe its stupid trying to over utilize DD. What happens if he goes down? I guess we would be forced to run Wells on every play. I'm sorry I'n not impressed with what our coaches are doing. At least before you could say we were dong alright on defense, if only we could generate some offense. Neither are really working now, but the offense is certainily showing more possibilites than the defense.

It's two games into the season guys, give the o-line a little more time to gel under the new scheme. It's not like we gave the world's best protection last year with the old scheme, and besides, we have a noobie starting at LT this season. However, I agree that we should look to DD a little less often. He's being very productive, but I think he's getting tired and concentrating too much on putting the offense on his shoulders instead of concentrating on holding onto the ball. It's not like we don't have weapons through the air, we should really start to use them. AJ is a beast, he just needs more opportunities, and I for one am pleasantly surprised by the step forward Gaffney has taken so far.

The way the line blocks on run plays is somehow weakening the way they block on pass plays? This isn't the first time I've heard this, but I'm not getting it, completely. I thought they only changed what they did on run plays. In fact, I thought that what they did was start run blocking much like they would normally block on pass plays. You know, just block your man and don't worry about making a whole, because DD is supposed to just find one. I never thought that was a good idea, actually, but I don't see how it affects pass blocking. I guess I missunderstood the whole thing. Can somebody explain what it is they're doing and how it could hurt their pass blocking?

My opinion about the pass blocking is that part of the problem is when DD becomes a receiver instead of a blocker--not that I expect him to be a good blocker.

ur right on pass they Drop back in more of a defensive block and run they attack or run at the guys LOL. Some people just dont understand the basics of football. But thats why i love this message board, Its not a zone blocking scheme during a pass play

I think you will find the splits(gaps) are greater under the new scheme, therefore there is a bigger hole for someone to come through. The run normally requires more space between the linemen so that you can have holes. I think it is harder for our linemen to maintain the pocket with the new scheme. They may also be tipping off when they intend to pass by the way the linemen are lining up in anticipation of trying to pass block instead of run blocking.

I am of the opinion that when something as significant as the entire scheme that the offensive line uses to block with is changed then it will take more than a training camp. a few quarters of preseason football, and two real games to get the players on the same page. There is a lot going on where the offensive line is concerned. Pitts is in a new position and it's a completely new position as well. Wand is starting for the first time in the NFL. Wade is new to the team.

I don't think they've been doing it long enough to say that it isn't working. At the midpoint of the season maybe the line will have started looking like what we expect to see and we'll get that for the rest of 2004 and then into 2005.

You don't zone block when passing. It is designed for running plays. Nothing should have changed on passing plays. From what I have seen it is working its just that DD has been fumbling.

I believe we have talked about this before the offense is getting what they need but -4 doesn't show it.the Broncos use a zone blocking scheme and it works,and tomorrow you will see it will work for us.
(even if it is not a win tomorrow you will see the scheme is working.)we are a 3rd year expansion Team untill next year that is what we are.
