Just finished with the Hall of Fame game and a few things stand out. Q. Griffin could potentially go for 1500 yards this year if the line holds up. The second is that I have a sneaking suspicion that at some point this season, Hasselbeck will be named the starter for the skins over a healthy Brunell and Ramsey. I don't know why, but he just looks like Theisman out there for one. THat last drive to set up the FG was 4th string on 4th string granted, but Hasselbeck showed he new how to control and sustain a winning drive. I would feel safe betting that Hasselbeck might be Gibbs pick at some point.

Let me know when the season begins. Preseason games are horrid. All field goals, guys you never heard of and never will again.
I bet if they polled the players they'd say let's start the real season already. Training camp must get old after the first week. And before I get blasted yes I realize it's the only way to get marginal players time on the field. Just venting. |

Hasselbeck looked much more accurate to me than brunnel or ramsey. Hasselbeck definantly has it together and can throw a good game. I was impressed.

i think for the player trying to make the roster the long pre-season helps the team make sure the get the best player on the roster. but for fans and vets 2 games would be more than enough befor the regular season starts. i'd rather have the season start right now, but i'll take whatever football i can get.

Ah the Preseason. The NFL is just starting and the fans are in mid season form. Hasslebeck over Ramsey & Brunell? I suppose if Rohan Davey leads the Patriots on a game winning 98 yard drive he'll supplant Brady as the QB of the Super Bowl champs. The preseason playbook is very mild, and 3rd stringers can look like stars. Portis had 11 yards on 4 carries, but does that mean he'll be a bust for the Redskins? Of course not. Starters see limited action, and have to shake off the rust from the offseason. Let's at least wait till the 4th preseason game before we start shaking up the roster.

Hasselbech won't start for the Redskins this years unless both QB's get injured.
I do think that Quentin Griffin is a perfect match with the Broncos run blocking. I see big things from the Broncos this year. They should finish close to KC for the division. Slight edge to KC though. |

Wasn't Hasselbeck the starting QB for the Seahawks last year? It's not like the guy can't play or hasn't played. He's been around for a while and has some experience. I'm not saying he's going to be the starter...I think Ramsey will be the number 1 QB when the season rolls around, but I'm not going to worry about anyone on any team until the 2nd or 3rd game of the season.

My point was this. Gibbs is an old school coach. He has nothing to prove because he has done it all before, when little Daniel Snider was pooping in his pampers. He is an icon in DC, and fans will side him over Snider in personnel decisions. Ramsey has shown flashes of talent, followed by lapses of extreme mediocrity. Bruenell is the obvious starter, but if that does not work out, then Gibbs won't be afraid to do whatever is needed to shake things up. If it means giving Haselbeck the ball just to see how he performs, then he'll do it IMO. Hasselbeck sucked at the fun and gun, of that there is little doubt, but so did Ramsey, Matthews, Wurefuel (sp), and a few others that Spurrier tried out. In Gibbs counter -tre (thanks Madden) offense, the QB just has to manage the game and not screw up. He doesn't need to throw for 5000 yards and 25 TDs.

No need to get offended. Simply an attempt to come back to the world of reality. Hasslebeck is number 3 on the depth chart for a reason, and using preseason success as a means of postulating the future is nearly as accurate as predicting who wins the Super Bowl in July. Numerous QBs have had great showings in the preseason only to bottom out the depth chart when the season begins. I believe Leaf had a pretty good preseason with the Chargers before bottoming out when the real games started. Chad Hutchinson had a good showing in the preseason the past couple years for the Cowboys, yet he's now released and looking for a job elsewhere. As for Tim Hasslebacks 0 QB rating against the Cowboys, I believe that there was one other QB in NFL history that accomplished that feat, but I'm not certain. As for the "good QB in a bad system" thing, here are the numbers of both QBs.
Tim Hassleback's Numbers with the Spurrier system. 2003 Washington Redskins 53.7% 1012yds 5.72YPA 5TD 7INT 63.6 QBRat Patrick Ramsey's Numbers with the Surrier system. 2002 Washington Redskins 51.5% 1539yds 6.78YPA 9TD 8INT 71.8 QBRat 2003 Washington Redskins 53.1% 2166yds 6.43YPA 14TD 9INT 75.8 QBRat Both are going into their third year, and the numbers are in favor of Ramsey who will probably end up backing up Brunell. Gibbs does need his QB to manage games, but giving up the ball isn't part of that. Keep in mind Hassleback started 5 games, and played in 7. As for Ramsey in 2003 he started in 11 games. Furthermore, I think no one knows Joe Gibbs better than Joe Gibbs himself, and there is a reason he stated that he'd let Ramsey and Brunell switch starts during the preseason to see who'd start the regular season as starting QB. Notice that he didn't mention Hassleback, and for good reason. |

Can't realy say the pre-season has no relavance, because of the 4 teams that went 4-0 last year, 3 were in the playoffs. Of course the other one was at the bottom of the heap. Oh well, every anology isn't perfect.

42.5 % for Brunell
30.0 % for Ramsey 27.5 % for Hassleback Out of 40 votes at the moment from the Redskins message board. Are these the numbers you based your comment on? Or where they college stats? I'm still not seeing how you based it on anything more than one preseason game. Here's an excerpt from one of the moderators post. Listed there as JoeDaSchmoe. Quote:
