Default Looking on the Bright Side...

Trying to look at the Texans going forward in a positive light.

1) We get the 1-1 draft pick, in the sport where getting that slot is the most meaningful. (i.e. not the Astros, where you draft the guy and won't see him in the majors for half a decade). Texans can easily improve in one area big time with this pick. Texans have pulled out some great drafts in the past, so I'm confident they can find 3-4 contributors for next year's team.

2) We get a new head coach. While this could go either way, a new coach is going to bring a lot of enthusiasm and new energy to a team that BADLY needs it. As it's been pointed out in a few articles, the Texans head coaching job is highly sought after. Chances are the Texans will get the guy they want (O'Brien, Lovie Smith, Wisenhunt?) to fill this position.

3) 2014 schedule at first look looks easy. Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Oakland, Dallas and the New York Giants on the road...Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Tennessee, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Philadelphia and Washington at home. Only 3 teams are in the playoffs currently. If the Texans wanted to turn it around in a hurry, next year's schedule will definitely help.

Heck Thorn, stir in some 'schrooms and set it on the counter till they ferment, have a big glass, and then you won't even worry about what the FO does.

I don't think that a coach has a ton of say in the GM, unless he's someone with a lot of prestige and keeping him is more important than anything else.

5 wins at best though? That's all for next season? Given that we are playing only 3 teams that were in the playoffs this year? Then again we did go 2-14 this season...

Last year the Colts were 11-5, with 5 wins either in OT or by 3 points or less playing a last place schedule thanks to 2-14 the year before. It was a general consensus that they got lucky a lot last year, no pun intended. They were then blown out in their one playoff game.

This year they were 11-5, having four wins against the two worst teams in the NFL and winning a weak division. They were 5-5 against teams not in the AFC South. They entered the bye week at 5-2 having beat SF, Seattle and Denver. Since the bye week, five of their six wins have been against Houston, Jax and Tennessee. They have one quality win against KC and were blown out in their three losses.

They are favored by a point - at home - against the Chiefs this weekend. I don't see them getting by them a second time. They played their best football at the beginning of the season.

Just saying that 22-10 over two years, with getting to the playoffs and winning a division title sounds suspiciously like the 2011-12 Texans. And Luck's stats as a QB look a whole lot more like Schaub than like Manning.

We lost 8 games by 7 points or less, this is all while pick 6 set an NFL record, an undrafted QB starting, losing our head coach cushing, manning, foster, OD

Pretty sure we arent as bad as ur saying we are !

injuries are no excuse Greenbay had like 15 players on IR one year and still won same with Balty last year they had key injuries on D and they won the SB injuries are no excuse

we also got Blown out by the elite teams that shows we are not there

San fran
Denver
Balty
INdy

hell even the St Louis Rams wiped the floor with us at Home !!! lol

when indy went 2-14 they fired all the coaches and they Fired there GM the same day

then they fired like 85% of there roster and drafted well also got the cap situation at good level

and they still went 11-5

sadly I don't see the Texans doing that

Just my negative mindedness coming out:

At home:

Indianapolis: just won our division, easily.
Jacksonville: swept us this year.
Tennessee: second in our division this year and just beat us.
Cleveland: Ok, maybe we win this one....next year.
Pittsburgh: fairly recent Superbowl winner and one-time dynasty.
Oakland: Ok, we might beat them at home. Maybe.
Dallas: very nearly won their division this year.
Giants: recent Superbowl winner....twice.

On the road:

Indianapolis: WE HAVE NEVER WON THERE...
Jacksonville: swept us this year.
Tennessee: Again? Sheesh.
Baltimore: won the Superbowl last year after beating the team we choked on.
Cincinatti: just won their division.
Buffalo: Mario has his one good game of the year.
Philadelphia: just won their division.
Washington: RGIII all over McCain and K-Jax.

There ya have it: 2-14, LOL.

We can still choose a QB next year!

I think we need to kick Indy out of our division. They are not a "south" team. It's the AFC South. We can't play well in the north. Let's trade them for the Browns.

By the Numbers: Texans 2013 season
Quote:
  • Despite losing 14 games, the Texans out-gained opponents by a total of 475 yards this season.

They have the worst record (2-14) of any team to ever out-gain opponents by that much in a season. The previous worst was the 4-12 Lions from 2012.

The Texans finished with just 11 takeaways all season. That is a new NFL record in a non-strike season. The Baltimore Colts had 11 in the strike-shortened 1982 season. They went 0-8-1.

  • Andre Johnson finished 2013 with 109 catches for 1,407 yards. Itís his fourth 100-catch, 1,400-yard season, tying him with Marvin Harrison for the most all time. He was just 93 yards shy of his fourth 100-catch, 1,500-yard season, which would have been the most all time.
  • DeAndre Hopkins finished his rookie season with 52 catches for 802 yards. He's the 42nd rookie since the merger to have 50 catches for 800 yards. He's one of two this year, along with Keenan Allen. He had the best rookie receiving year for a Texan since Johnson had 66 catches for 986 yards in 2003.

The bright side is this?

We more than likely won't go 1-15 next season????

Than again, NO GUARANTEES. Let's not match the Lions 0-16 season........ Please!
