Default Deputy constables inventory ex-NFL QB Vince Young’s possessions

Quote:
HOUSTON -- Ex-NFL quarterback Vince Young got quite a wake-up call Monday morning -- from Harris County deputy constables armed with court papers to enforce a $1.7 million judgment against him.

KHOU 11 News has confirmed three constables with Harris County Precinct 5 visited his home in the 12000 block of Legend Manor in Southwest Houston. They took an inventory of his possessions—furniture, jewelry, artwork, to tally up how much it’s all worth.

The former University of Texas star is allowed to keep $60,000 in personal property off the table as “exemptions,” but the rest could go up for sale at public auction to satisfy that court judgment.

The $1.7 million was from a high-risk loan Young took out during the 2011 NFL lockout from the New-York firm Pro Player Funding.

Young defaulted on the loan, Pro-Player took him to court, and obtained a judgment in July 2012. But ever since, Young has been fighting the judgment, claiming he didn't know what he was signing and was duped by his former financial advisor Ronnie Peoples.

Trey Dolezal, Young’s attorney, called the constables’ visit “gorilla tactics” by opposing attorneys, and tried to get a temporary restraining order to stop them. Harris County judge Dan Hinde denied that motion Tuesday afternoon.

Sean Bellew, attorney for Pro Player Funding, said they were well within their rights, and pursued this avenue as a last resort after spending a year chasing Young for the money he owes.

It's just mind-boggling how someone can go through so much money so quickly and have virtually nothing left in just a matter of a few years.

I have no animosity toward VY. The 2006 draft stuff is all water under the bridge, and even "this is my house" garbage is humorous in hindsight (mainly because that was probably the high point of his career).

So I say all that to explain when I say "how stupid can you be?", it's not from any of the past, but just beyond my comprehension to see someone piss away a fortune.

Using $300,000.00 of borrowed money to throw yourself a birthday party illustrates the mentality..... allegedly.

It is hard to comprehend but he isn't bright and he may or may not have surrounded himself with parasites. Even so blowing that much money in less than 10 years is a head scratcher. But he is a ut idol and hell probably have a comfortable existence with his texas ties unless he's even dumber than we think.

I have been watching American Greed: Scams, Scoundrels and Suckers on CNBC over the last few months, and there are people worth more and smarter than Vince Young who have lost fortunes to white collar criminals.

It appears that some of the financial con artists pay on investments as promised for a year or more, then once the investors really like the returns they are getting and trust these advisors, they begin helping themselves to the investors money. Most end up with nothing, or a pennies on the dollar once exposed. The saddest so far was the widow of a 911 victim who invested with a very reputable firm. Her advisor became greedy, and kept advising after he had been fired from the firm. By the time the widow learned of the theft, most of her money had been stolen to finance his lifestyle. Fortunately, the company he had worked for reimbursed the losses which rarely happens.

I don't know if Vince had a similar experience or squandered without or minimal help, but sometimes the old hole in back yard is safer than some "trusted" investment advisors.

I don't know anything about "gorilla tactics" but I wonder if they are anything like "guerilla tactics?"

Gotta be marginally bright to graduate from the University of Texas, football factory division, when you are an African American "student" athlete. Only 46% are successful.

As Gil Favor was fond of saying (paraphrased) "Sign em' up, move em' out".
