As was the case with the other positions, this metric review measures medium (11-19 yards), deep (20-29 yards) and bomb (30-plus yards) pass attempts on a yards per attempt basis. The qualifying mark was 150 total pass attempts. The yardage totals once again include "pass in the air" penalty attempts and yards (i.e., pass interference, defensive holding, illegal contact, etc.).

Now that we have the rules out of the way, let's take a look at the top 10 vertical quarterbacks from 2007:

Player Team Vert Att Vert Yds Vert YPA
Chris Redman Atlanta 35 505 14.4
Matt Schaub Houston 83 1,139 13.7
Jeff Garcia Tampa Bay 82 1,063 13.0
Brett Favre Green Bay 155 1,983 12.8
Tony Romo Dallas 181 2,216 12.2
Tom Brady New England 187 2,288 12.2
Luke McCown Tampa Bay 28 336 12.0
Daunte Culepper Oakland 56 701 11.9
Peyton Manning Indianapolis 185 2,156 11.7
Donovan McNabb Philadelphia 122 1,387 11.4

"For those who might have doubts about Matt Schaub after his up-and-down 2007 season, consider this. He posted a 13.7 YPA, despite lining up with Andre Johnson in only four games. They paired up for 294 yards on 17 vertical passes in those contests, so if they both can stay healthy in 2008, they could make a run at placing in the top 10 in many categories."
So basically, for guys who have over 1000 yards passing, Schaub was #1.

And he does this with a random assortment of gimps and fatguys and youngsters as the running backs.
