Neither the former Raven Reed, arguably the best safety of his generation, nor the rookie Swearinger is ready to hold down the position — for different reasons, of course — so defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and secondary coach Vance Joseph agreed they were comfortable awarding the job to Keo, 25, until further notice.
This is probably one of those situations where the rookie seems a little too full of himself, so they're going to humble him a little bit. Tell him he has to "earn" the job.

Come Sept 9, if Reed is not ready I wouldn't be surprised to hear Swearinger made a lot of improvements in the 4 weeks between.

This is also away to pump Keo up, see what he's got. A nice way of saying sht or get off the pot.
