The entire Dallas/FTW/Arlington and other nearby cities are considered as one media market which determines ad revenue for TV and radio stations, which allows you a larger audience as a sports team. Also, Dallas itself will never be much bigger than it is, because, unlike Houston, it can't annex any cities immediately surrounding it. Don't know the details, but there is some law that allows Houston to annex surrounding areas.
Neither can Houston or any city in Texas, trick is to annex an area before it incorporates. But the point here is that the FtWorth-Arlington area of which FtWorth proper itself is a city of over 3/4s of a million people, a large city in it's own right, is definitely not a suburb of Dallas. If you don't know that then you don't know anybody from Ft Worth.
