Okay. I'm WITH the *Indians
on this one. The name is a prejorative. I would be just as offended were there an NFL franchise called the Alabama Porch-Monkeys, The New Jersey Jigaboos or the New Orleans N:gg3rs. Red Tails? Eeeeh. Okay as a history buff I'm an admirer of the Tuskeegee airmen, but Red Tails? Kinda seems like a guy who wants to run for mayor trying too hard.
Why not use the name of an ACTUAL group of Indians and pay them residuals for the use of their name. The Blackfoot come to mind.
Same number of syllables so they could keep the same fight song and if you look at the logo on the Blackfoot website it's pretty similar to the current logo. Keep the colors, keep the logo. The team gets a bunch of people off their backs the Blackfoot Nation gets some recognition and a residual for the use of their name. It's win/win...or Nguyen Nguyen depending on who their lawyer is. I'm just sayin'.
*Yes I know the politically correct term is "native American" but I've met many who call themselves "Indians."
