This kind of article is what John McClain does best. Very entertaining to read and the depth of his knowledge of local football history is fantastic.
I didn't know the background about Carl Mauck. That really puts things into perspective, especially living the Luv Ya Blue years that were to follow, when both the Oilers and the Cowboys were owned by the legendary Steel Curtain of Pittsburgh.
Even more interesting is knowing that the Cowboys were going to be the NFL's expansion franchise in Houston until Bud Adams from the AFL mucked things up and pulled strings to prevent it. Once the NFL decided on Dallas, the AFL team - the Dallas Texans - moved to Kansas City. The rest, as they say, is history.
