I would say even with the names on that list the protection was pretty mediocre at best. And Carlson was the one with the broken nose. I knew it was one of the QB that season. He was the walking dead before the nose break then that just sealed it.

Just because a QB gets sacked, it doesn't automatically mean it's the line's fault. Just use guys like Rob Johnson or David Carr as an example, you know, the incredible self sacking QB.
If you think Kevin Donally, Bruce Matthews, Bruce Hopkins and David Williams weren't top NFL linemen you don't know what you are talking about. Yeah, Carlson went on to have such a fabulous career with another team with a better line,....oh wait, he didn't 'cause he was another awful option. The team went out and signed Chris Chandler and then drafted Steve McNair the next season. For some mysterious reason the team improved from then on out.
