kffl.com quoted this website as saying he's competing for the starting SS position...not the back-up
Trust me when I say that kffl had zero basis for that headline other than second and third hand information/opinion. They often create headlines that don't match the themes much less the content of the work they are "paraphrasing." At best, Earl will compete for the backup SS position this season behind Eric Brown. He probably is further ahead than Walker in his rehab.
They took this statement:
"ACL tears usually take at least a year to rehab so both Walker and Earl could be question marks until mid-season," and somehow came up with this headline:
"Texans | Earl To Compete For Starting SS Spot - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 23 Jun 2004 12:23:34 -0700"
...while the statement was written in the context that Brown's competition should
come from Walker and Earl but (since they are both coming off serious injury) the backup spot is really unsettled...
In other words, don't believe everything you read on the internet.
