In summary, if Gaffney, Pitts and Weary signed four year deals, they are under contract through 2005. We should get another round of first day draft picks for the roster next year without losing any of our salary cap friendly 2002 picks.
If they signed three year deals (or performance options make them three year deals) they would still be restricted free agents. We would then have the right to match their offers or get draft pick compensation.
Either way, as we catch up with other teams, we control four years of drafted players who are cap friendly.
