To the Chiefs. If the 9ers got the #1 pick the Chiefs took it up the poop chute. My guess would be the #33. I don't think he's worth but a 3 or 4.

I reckon this says a lot about the talent at QB in this draft. lol

I think at best it is #33...

Agreed, 33 is good trade not #1. What do they use first for? i think they can trade down and get a solid OT like Johnson and couple more picks.

I think it's a solid trade for the Chiefs. Alex Smith isn't going to be confused for a star, but he's good enough for the time being. They may even compete for a wild card spot.

Funny, the Chiefs traded the #34 pick in 2009 for Matt Cassel. Any reason to believe this one will turn out differently?

That's what I was thinking when I made the post above. Hell, I think most people had higher hopes at the time for Cassell than they do now for Alex Smith.

I think they could have paid less had they held out. Good deal for 49ers, who have a stockpile of picks.

looks like a good signing for the chiefs to me. they've got an excess of talent and just need someone at quarterback to make good decisions. smith isnt going to light it up, but he's going to give their offense the consistency and production that's been lacking. i'm betting they make a major turnaround next season.

now that quarterback is taken care of, i expect them to go ahead and take the offensive tackle with their first pick, re-sign bowe, and look forward to a complete offense next season.

The 9ers now have 12 picks in this years draft. They're likely to get around 3 comp picks. Crazy!

Hopefully Alex Smith understands there is a reason the Chiefs traded for him, and not focus on why the 49ers traded him. He needs to be that guy who manages the team, minimizes mistakes, & not take chances until he has to.

If he tries to be someone he's not, it's not going to work well for him. If he can utilize the talent they've got on offense, he can, & KC can, see some success.

Their F.O. has been doing a great job for a good while now.

Dwayne Bowe -- if resigned -- and Jonathan Baldwin, added O-line help with #1 pick, with Jamal Charles ..... instant offense.

Without Bowe, less so.

I can see Reid taking this team to 8-8 in his first year.

Same price as Schaub for a similair level of talent (slightly worse maybe).

Don't think many of us complain about that price.

Did they overpay? Yes, but Smith had a 90.7 qb rating in 2011 and a 104.1 qb rating in 2012. Maybe this guy is underrated a bit?

Meh, not really true. Alex Smith is roughly equivalent to what Matt Schaub has turned out to be. But back in '07, people had high hopes for Schaub. Now, he is what he is, and so is Alex Smith. Paying two 2nd rounders for a guy you hope has franchise QB potential is acceptable. Paying that for a guy that's been in the league as long as Alex Smith, has been labeled a bust like Smith, and is as old as Smith, is excessive, IMO.

If you knew this was what you'd get out of Schaub back in '07, you wouldn't make that trade.
