Wade says he double up on Marshall "every play"
Houston Texans defensive coordinator Wade Phillip has been grinding through film of the Chicago Bears offense this week, and has come to a conclusion.
"They've only thrown it to one guy basically," Phillips said, via Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle. "They do a great job of that." That one guy, of course, is Brandon Marshall. The statistics outrageously back up Phillips' claim. Marshall has 797 receiving yards on the season; no one else on the Bears has more than 200 yards. Alshon Jeffrey's injury hasn't helped, but ultimately this is not a good thing for the Bears. Quality defenses won't just allow Marshall to run wild. REST HERE |
Re: Wade says he double up on Marshal "every play"
Cutler is in Nervana, after his GM gave him back his #1 receiver.
Remember.... Marshall wanted the Broncos to trade him after they let Cutler go. Now that they're back together, Jay Cutler is settling into a nice quarterback. This game will be hell on the Texans' defense, but I can't wait to watch. |
Re: Wade says he double up on Marshal "every play"
Brandon Marshall has 90 targets in 8 games.
Earl Bennett is next at 32. Matt Forte has 28 targets. Outside of Marshall and the TE Davis, the other primary receivers have missed at least one game. |

Whoosh.

Joseph & a safety should control Marshall. We have been pretty good shutting down the run but I am concerned with the RB coming out for a pass and who will handle the TE with Cush gone. I think we will show a more crowded box than usual.

Re: Wade says he double up on Marshal "every play"
Marshall's biggest weakness in the past has been poor TD production. But this season, he already has 7. The one thing that seems to account for this besides chemistry with Cutler is Marshall's continual illegal use of the hands, which by some strange reason almost always occurs away from the roving eyes of those extremely observant zebras.

Re: Wade says he double up on Marshal "every play"
same thing green bay did. they did whatever necessary to take away marshall for at least the first half and it completely bogged the chicago offense. martz doesnt have the patience to run forte 35 times, so we just have to keep the run game from getting a head of steam and remove marshall.
we match up pretty well with chicago in the secondary. both kareem and JJo play bigger receivers well, and mccain can run with hester (i dont think many realize how insanely fast mccain is). i'd personally put kareem and demps on marshall all game and let that be the end of it. their offensive line is also a bonus for us as they dont protect with more than 5 or 6 often, so watt and smith should have big days. |

It was a joke
Tania Ganguli @taniaganguli Guys... Wade Phillips was joking. A deadpan joke. He does that. #Texans are not going to double-team Brandon Marshall every play. |
