Long Time Lurker - First Mock Draft!
 

rd 1 - Jonathan Martin/Stanford - Talented tackle who handled the best effort from every team he played. If you were a DE and playing Standford don't you think you'd be busting your ass to have the poster worthy sack of Andrew Luck? Martin was in charge of making sure that didn't happen.

rd 2 - Bruce Irvin/West Virginia - Hard working, high motor and FAST pash rusher. Has some character issues, but displays an effort to rise above his upbringing. Locker room like the Texans can help harness his full potential.

rd 3 - Derek Wolfe/Cin - High motor hard working guy. Rotational player and/or depth

rd 4a - Greg Childs/Ark - Amazing measurables, would go much higher if he stayed healthy. Certainly worth the risk here.

rd 4b - Brandon Washington/Miami - More young talent on the OL, played OT and OG in college.

rd 5 - Tommy Streeter/Miami - Raw but has the size/speed to be a playmaker. May take time to develop, but he could turn out to be a stud and he gets to learn from Andre.

rd 6 - Jarius Wright/Ark - Slot guy with great speed and quickness. Ability to replace Jacoby on special teams.

rd 7 - Highest rated kicker


Idea here is to continue to focus on the trenches and keep our stable full of young/athletic/hungry talent. If we can continue to dominate both lines of scrimmage and pressure the QB our future will be bright. I know everyone is really pushing for a WR early, but by the time we pick I just don't see any sure fire studs being available. We have so many irons in the fire at WR that I think we should grab some boom/bust type guys. Surely between this draft and last years, with all the raw talent in the WR corps, we have someone that will develop into a solid #2 at a minimum.

I like your mock. While I'm a firm believer in taking a WR in the first, I could easily see the Texans doing something like this. Good job & welcome.

Thank you sir! I just read your mock and realized that we thought quite similarly on a couple of our picks. I am 1000% on board with you and have been wanting a WR to compliment Andre for a few years now. I'm just not sure I see the talent in this class, especially at 26. I honestly don't even like Blackmon nearly as much all the media seems to...

If we went with "some" sort of receiving threat in the 1st I'd be happy to see Fleener there. I think TE's are going to be integral going forward to many NFL systems and tend to be overlooked STILL. Love Hill as well... just a freak physically.

I'm admittedly not a draftnik but I like what you've done. And I agree that we should reload our talent in the trenches. I'm also of the opinion that most of the stud WRs will likely be off the board by #26. I'm hoping that Fleener is still around and that we snag him. But that's probably a pipe dream.

Could you possibly list their positions next to their names?

I literally have no idea which position these two gentlemen play.

I was on that ship for a long time too .... But now Ive come to the conclusion that after the first two , the rest are all crapshoots. Youcan get the same talent in round three as you can at the Texans first pick at that position.


Im leaning heavily twards interior OL in the first unless one of the top WR's slips or they trade up.

1st welcome to MB and this forum. A lot of us hang out here a lot. Like many of your guys but would suggest you list positions and size/weight/speed with your comments. Some of us will know your guys but when it gets to lower rounds not so much and many visitors would like to have that as many will not have time or means to research. Washington could be a steal in 4th as his last season he had difficulty with his coach. Probably should have remained in school one more season but I think he made correct call.

STreeter is on my mock also as in two years could be a WR#1. I'd gamble a 4th on that.

I do agree with you guys that 3 WR's "might" be a bit of a pipe dream for me, lol... I just really feel like the size and talent is there with both Childs/Streeter to be a #2 this season with the potential to replace AJ down the road.

I'm with everyone else that REALLY wanted a stud WR in round 1, but I just don't see a significant gap in the talent between guys rated in rounds 2-5 for the most part. Quick vs Randle vs Childs vs Streeter vs Criner vs Sanu vs ETC. In fact I'd say that Streeter and Childs have the most upside in that entire group, followed by Quick and Randle. What do you guys think?

I also wouldn't mind throwing a TE in the mix... but I think we can acquire a FB as an UDFA.

This is probably my favorite mock I've seen on this site, no lie. Although I think 3 WRs is one too many, but great nonetheless IMO.

Thank you for the welcome and point noted about listed position/etc. My bad guys.

So what do you think about the rest of the picks? And do you guys think these players will still have a reasonable chance of being on the board in each round I've selected them in? I pulled round ratings from a handful of sites to help keep things as accurate as I can... but honestly I think many of you guys know WAY more than I about the current trends.
