The most improved team and why?

Give me the most improved team in the nfl and tell me who makes them better

StarStruck 06-17-2004 09:21 PM

None of the above.
Eagles -- still can't win the big one
Patriots -- took a year to regroup
Vikings -- don't remember
Bucks -- you're kidding, right?
Texans -- only second year in the league, but expect vast improvement in the next two years
Raiders -- another joke, right?

My vote would go to the Dallas Cowboys (Roy Williams, Terrance Newman, Bill Parcells), the Carolina Panthers (Jake Delhomme, Stephen Davis, J. Peppers, John Fox) and Kansas City Chiefs (Dante Hall, Priest Holmes, Trent Green, **** Vermeil).

aj. 06-17-2004 09:39 PM

Not sure how the Pats or Panthers could be the most improved since they made it to the SB, but my answer is also none of the above as the Detroit Lions could surprise everyone this year and make the wild card because of the addition of Kevin Jones, Roy Williams, Teddy Lehmann, Tai Streets, Fernando Bryant, and Brock Marion (if he stays out of jail). Arizona and the Nutty Professor will also surprise IMO.

Fiddy 06-17-2004 10:00 PM

Vikings because they upgraded there pass rush with Udeze and got their shut down corner in Winfield. Their offense is already hard to stop.

Corrosion 06-18-2004 07:47 AM

the Raiders ..... no where to go but up from last years mess of a season

Doug 06-18-2004 09:06 AM

I agree with aj. I think the lions are going to surprise alot of people. I've noticed on a few other team boards where they think the lions are going to be an easy win but I think Detroit's going to be tough. It's going to take a while for their guys to develope chemistry but they've had dramatic improvement in the offseason.

WWJD 06-18-2004 09:17 AM

Isn't this the Texans 3rd year in the league?

TheOgre 06-18-2004 09:39 AM

I think the Raiders rebound and end up about 9-7. They have added the best OT and best C from this draft. They will have a healthy Gannon and Porter. They rebuilt their DL (with Ted Washington and Warren Sapp), which was the weakness of the team. They added their QB of the future in Kerry Collins. Perhaps Charles Woodson can stay healthy for a full season. I like them to be much better this year.

Lucky 06-18-2004 12:26 PM

On paper, Washington seems to be very much improved over the past season. Of course they are the perennial off season champs, so what does this stuff mean anyway? Still, they added 5 new starters on defense and 3 on offense. Sure they lost a playmaker in Champ Bailey, but they picked up 2 in Clinton Portis & Sean Taylor. Maybe the most important addition is Joe Gibbs as head coach. Unlike the previous Washington administration ( :) ), these guys are of professional caliber and understand what it takes to succeed. Bringing in Joe Bugel to school the Skins talented, but embattled, offensive line is an enormous addition.

But donít forget about improvement from within. Thatís the department where the Texans would rank very high in. Andre Johnson, Domanick Davis, Antwan Peek, Seth Wand, and Tony Hollings are entering their 2nd season and coming off their 1st full offseason in the Texansí program. Yes, the Texans will have some star defenders returning. But, donít forget the experience gained by guys like Faggins who were forced into action because of the injuries. I also like the addition of a QB coach to help aid in the development of Carr, especially on the sidelines on gameday. Really, I expect to see a major jump in the Texans play this season, particularly in winning games at Reliant. A 6-2 or even 7-1 home record is not out of the question considering just how tough a building it is for a visitor to play in.

keyfro 06-19-2004 02:10 PM

to do this poll right the teams should have been the ones in the middle of rebuilding

teams like:

raiders(still rebuilding)
chargers
lions
cards
texans
giants
49ers(actually destructing)

those are the real teams this poll should have been about

beerlover 06-19-2004 02:43 PM

Jacksonville should be on this list, but given that, I would still pick the Raiders to have the biggest turnaround this year. Remember they have the second farthest to improve (nobody is taking the Chargers) and the year before they where in the Superbowl. :hehe:

Homer's odessey

Honestly, I know that this is the official Texans board, but 11 of you homers think that we are the most improved? Who signed, Kearse and T.O. and stole a good OT in the draft, sent him to a nasal specialist who removed pollups from his nose so he can breathe now? Not us!!
Who signed Sapp, Kerry Collins, big Ted Washington, drafted the best OT to come out since Boselli? Not us!!
what did we exactly do that made us better than Philly or oakland? we're going to be starting a rookie CB and our other CB is coming of surgery for a serious groin pull. We have a rookie LB from a mid-major school who may be our pass rusher or may be our Keith Mcants. Our biggest moves were signing Wade and Smith, and BTW Payne still has not fully recovered from his ACL. Do you honestly think that signing those two is better for us than Philly getting Kearse and TO, or Oakland getting Sapp and Gallery and Collins? You guys are the same people who post threads like, " how would insert the name of some cast off problem player from another team here look in steel blue?" I find it highly unlikely that there is an Antonio Bryant on philly's or Oaklands site. Are we improved? certainly. are we the most improved? come on, why even put us on the list? I guess it is time to coin the phrase "steel blue colored glasses" :twocents: :soapbox:

Who lost their two pro-bowl corners? Philly.
Who signed an over the hill DT? Oak. Who had the second pick in the draft? Oak.
Im not saying the Texans are the most improved. What I am saying is that Oakland and Philly are also not that team.

...and if you rank the 3, we come in third IMO. What is Philly doing at CB now? Starting a rookie ( Matt Ware)? Gee, why does that sound so familiar? Would you trade Taylor and Vincent for Dhani Jones, TO, and Kearse? Washington, hey didn't he anchor a Super Bowl defensive line last year? Yeah, he's 37 but he was 36 last year and he got his ring last week. Oakland took the best football player in the draft at #2, exactly how does that count against them?

oooh, so a rookie CB is a rookie CB is a rookie CB. Having two pro bowl corners, one on each side, made any offense afraid to throw the ball. Now a team can throw to either side against them.

NO!

Dhani Jones is a ok Linebacker, nothing special.
TO is a egotistical, whiner. Who will do more damage than he will help them.
And Kearse. He will help. For the first 3 games, before he breaks or tears something.

Just because you add three big name players, doesnt mean a thing. They have to produce.

Now this argument I have no problem with. Washington is a great addition.

I'm just saying that its not hard to improve this team from what it was last year. They had nowhere to go but up. And just because you think Gallery is the "best football player in the draft" doesnt mean that he is. Remember that.

Remember that? What is there going to be a ****ing quiz before the season starts? Remember that  oh, that's a priceless blast against TO coming from a guy who is actually started a thread proclaiming the benefit of picking up Antonio Bryant or , TO without the proof of talent as I like to call him. Remember that? I can link it for you if you don't "remember that"! does it hurt you tremendously to yap out of both sides of your grille like that, or is your jawbone just double jointed? Oh and your right, where a rookie is selected is a direct correlation to how well he will do. For instance Robinson will be much better than Matt Ware, because he was drafted ahead of him right? signed Anquan Boldin in a letter to Charles Rogers and a similar letter from Dominic Davis to BJ Askew..

were you refering to the over the hill Sapp who is younger and has more upside than Washington, Or were you refering to Washington, whom you later tout as a great addition? Which exactly are you talking about double-talk?
Just for fun, here is your position on signing JJ Stokes;
Quote:

Meh. I think we have enought WR to suffice right now.
then a week later you had this to say about Joe Horn
Quote:

Sign him 2-3 years. Anymore would be a waste. To bad he will sign a 7 year deal with some **** team
then about a week later you started your Antonio Bryant thread.........
more DC rock hypocracy..on the 49ers..
Quote:

While anything can happen, do you really think teams like San Diego, and the 49ers have any chance?
and then...
Quote:

Yeah, they need some work. But dont sell them short.
Couch/Rattay throwing the pigskin to Cedrick Wilson, Curtis Conway, Brandon Lloyd, and Rashaun Woods, with Barlow running the ball.
Doesnt sound as bad as it is.
you should really run for public office DC, you've got the wishy-washy mentality for it. Remember that. Even if you don't agree with me right now, that is fine. I am patient enough to wait for you to pull a complete 180 on a given subject as you are so apt to do. :D

Blake 06-21-2004 04:40 PM

Oh, were going to start the contradicting game. Let me try one.

Anyways back to the thread. I dont think the Texans are the most improved. I think the Vikes did a great job. I like their draft, and I like their FA pickups. My fav. was Antoine Winfield. I think he will be the key to the vikes going into the playoffs. JMO.

TheOgre 06-21-2004 04:49 PM

I thought Lito Sheppard (1st round pick in 2002) and Shelton Brown (2nd round pick in 2002) were starting for the Eagles at CB this season. Is that not accurate? http://www.ourlads.com/secure/depthchart.cfm?index1=phi

They both had a ton of p.t. last year. They may not be Vincent and Taylor in their primes, but I think they will do fine. They are already starting SS Michael Lewis (2nd round pick in 2002) from that draft class. I have a feeling they will do alright there.

Blake 06-21-2004 04:54 PM

Im not sure how they will do this year. I think they will be exposed.

Ediddy73 06-21-2004 04:57 PM

just for clarity DC, and to quash any further flaming, Antonio Bryant is a selfish punk ***, as is TO. TO is also a big-time, big-game Pro-Bowl reciever who has proven his worth on the field and is the first recieving option in any offense he is in. Bryant is .....not any of that. You see TO going to the Star in Dallas, signing footballs with Sharpies, and doing the pom-pom dance after, guess what, SCORING. TO has 8500+ recieving yards and 81 TDs in 8 seasons to back up his foolishness. that is a career average of 1072 yards and 10.125 TD per season. When Bryant averages like that then call me back. ( PA Bryant is currently at 641yds and 4 TDs / season BTW)
I stand 100% behind my comments.
