Danieal Manning S, signs with Texans

Looks like we're one of the finalists in signing him. With the cap savings of Jonathan Joseph over Aso, we can bring in 2 instead of 1.

Alright, I'll bite, either him or Dashon Gholdson then I'll be ecstatic about the JoJo signing. I'll just be mildly content if we end up with Sensabaugh

This is exactly what I was thinking. I would rather have JJ and Manning over Aso.

Two great players to shore up our defense.....championship.

Looks like Dashon Goldson already agreed to a big contract with the Raiders, too bad because he was one of my earlier wants.

Some manning on manning action would be sweet.

An older article, but it describes D Manning as being a pass coverage strong safety: http://www.profootballfocus.com/blog...chicago-bears/

maybe sign manning and move him to FS and sign back pollard for dirt cheap. You have to admit pollard is a beast and we wont need him for coverage too much with jjo and manning. Glover can move down to #2 corner.

Has corner skills and speed 4.47 but played as SS. Looks like the twin safety type that Phillips said he's looking for. Good hip swivle.

If you watched some of the Pollard lowlights from last year, you'd take this statement back. I expect to see a Allen/Jackson/Harris showdown for the #2 postion. Add another safety and you've got solid pass coverage behind that player, and occasionally leaving Jonathan Joseph on an island.

The scheme expects the front 7 to stop the run.

Last year he didn't have that corner top corner that he had in 2009 with dunta robinson. In 2009 he was a pro bowl safety in my opinion. The main reason i want him back is because hes a play maker. That blocked kick in the redskins game, the int against tom brady in the last game of the season in 2009, the fumble in the colts game by austin collie (i think). He makes plays that change games and he brings that tough attitude to the team that we've never had before

Bears defensive end Israel Idonije is perfect, when it comes to finishing a tackle.

According to the website Pro Football Focus, Idonije is the only defender with at least 75 tackles over the last three years to not miss even one.

PFF analyzed all defenders with at least 75 attempted tackles, including sacks, over the past three seasons.

On the opposite spectrum, among defensive linemen, Amobi Okoye of the Houston Texans missed one of every eight attempts.

Bears safety Danieal Manning finished second among defensive backs, missing just 27 or one in every 27.57 attempts. And, not surprisingly, cornerback Charles Tillman was eighth among DBs with a miss, on average, every 18.5 tackle attempts.

Only one Bears defender made the dubious list. Lance Briggs had the most missed tackles (48) among linebackers, but his average (7.63) ranked fourth based on his number of tackle attempts. Among all the linebackers who made either list, Briggs finished tied for second with 277 solo tackles.

To see PFF's study, click
So he's among the best tacklers in the league, an area where we've been suspect historically.

I wonder how Weddle's contract is going to impact the potential to sign Manning
