Best possible off-season moves
In this thread say what you think the Texans should do to become a championship team.
Sign O.J. Atogwe/or Antoine Bethea. At this point our defense would have improved greatly. If we can sign neither of these guys we should really try to pull for Vince Wilfork and open up the wallet. Here are two scenarios We sign O.J. or Antoine and now at the draft we can focus on getting 1st choice C.J. Spiller or 2nd choice Brian Price. If we missed out on signing either of the two FSs we have to sign a franchise DT. Possibly Vince Wilfork or Richard Seymour etc etc. Now going into the draft with this scenario we should be focused on getting 1st choice Earl Thomas or 2nd choice C.J. Spiller. O.J. Atogwe 5 year vet, runs a 4.52 5"11/205/28 years old 2009 stats 74 tackles, 1 sack, 3 FFs and 2 INTs Antoine Bethea (he should be very familiar to you) 4 year vet, runs a 4.4 5"11/203/25 years old 2009 stats 98 tackles, 2 FFs and 4 INTs Vince Wilfork 6 year vet, runs a 5.13 6"2/325/28 years old 2009 stats 43 tackles, 1 FF Thoughts??? |
Re: Best possible off-season moves
My most important offseason moves would be to add a stud O-lineman in FA and another in the 2nd round of the draft. The O-line is the foundation of the offense and the Texans have never put much importance on it. If Kubiak wants to have a job beyond next season he better fix the foundation.

The interior o line MUST be addressed this offseason. Sure we don't have great RBs, but how can they go somewhere if they have nowhere to go?

Iupati makes a ton of sense if Earl Thomas is gone, or the coaches feel we can get a safety in round 2. |

If I were to spend a first round pick on an OG I think at a our position it would Mike Iupati. I am not sure the F.O. will do that however.

Re: Best possible off-season moves
Going with the mentality that this coming season Kubiak may get either a hefty extension or get canned, emphasis on the OL and running game could be the direction they go.
With that in mind, a Free Agent interior O-lineman is really important. Lots of talk of trying to acquire Chris Kuper from Denver (fits system and comes over with Dennison). If its him GREAT, if not... we need somebody. Hopefully Brisiel will be back and it'd be great if Chester could be healthy and get re-signed. Myers and Caldwell to compete at C, I think Brown and Winston have the Tackles locked. That leaves Studdard, White, Brisiel, Chester, Caldwell/Myers, new FA OG and/or early draft pick C/G. RB CJ Spiller - Clemson (#20) RB Jonathan Dwyer - Georgia Tech (#20 or trade down/late 1st) OG Mike Johnson - Alabama (trade down/late 1st... maaaybe 2nd) OG Jon Asamoah - Illinois (2nd rd pick) C/G Maurkice Pouncey - Florida (2nd rd pick) I think without a trade down in the 1st round, we're going to be the BPA at #20. That player should be and will most likely be a PLAYMAKER on offense or defense. That leaves it open to RB/WR or FS/CB. DT is a possibility if they think he'll make an impact. But I really think they're going to go with the biggest playmaker they can find with our 1st pick. |
