Marcus Stevens

Why is it that our free safeties don't know how to wrap up? If Marcus would have actually tackled LT we might have had one more shot. I know you are about to come at me with the "great players make plays" as an excuse for LT getting the first down, but Coleman had position and he didn't break down on him he tried to arm tackle him. piss poor effort when we needed it most. I'll bet if LT was a street light on Kirby, Coleman would have squared up and nailed him. Just venting.

Fiddy 09-13-2004 04:58 PM

Not many players can individually tackle LT when he uses his stiff arm...

NoBullTexan 09-13-2004 05:04 PM

Oh come on Ediddy, you want to hold Marcus Coleman responsible because the whole team, including the coaches, game plan, and all, stunk?!!! It was the most uninspired effort I have ever seen from the fledgling Texans. But they are just learning to fly, so give them another week before we all come down on 'em. I can guarantee you this game was a wakeup call for everyone on that team.

mrtexansfan 09-13-2004 05:17 PM

TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS, TURNOVERS that is what cost us a win. had we held onto the ball does it come down to coleman stopping lt? i dont think so. this team is still at a spot in thier existence that we need to play perfect or atleast near perfect to win on most weeks and we did not play close to that way this week. no one person is at fault for this loss. we need to improve on the fundimentals of football, wrapping up on tackles, holding on to the ball, saty away from stupid penalties etc. to say this game came down to coleman not stopping lt is ignoring the fact that had others done the above we would not have been in that position!!! and remember a win or 2 against the titans and we will forget all about losing to san diego lol

RTP2110 09-13-2004 05:24 PM

You guys are all taking the "big picture" appraoch when Ediddy was just trying to focus on one play. I agree with him, if Coleman would have wrapped him hup he had a real good chance to prevent the first down. To me it didn't even look like an arm tackle, it looked like he was trying to strip the ball instead of trying to make any kind of tackle.

Vinny 09-13-2004 05:26 PM

Coleman was also the last man on the edge when Tiki Barber rode us for that big 70-something yard gain when we played the Giants. Tiki made him look like Jerry Lewis on that play. He is not going to be the best of tacklers as a free safety although he is a physical specimen. He plays with a finesse style. That is really has been his only knock as a player over the years since he is such a great athlete. Coleman has other strengths and most players have at least one weakness. I'm not saying that he is a bad tackler, but Coleman failing to bring down a great back in that situation isn't a shock.

ArlingtonTexan 09-13-2004 05:38 PM

The only players on the Texans defense I would give even a close to 50-50 shot in the open filed against LT are Sharper, Babin and robinson. LT against most defenders one on one equals the defenders losing like 4 out 5 times.

Lt Is The Truth

The Only Person That Can Tackle Lt In The Open Field Is Someone Who Gets Him From Behind And Lt Cant See Him Thats It Your Running Back Plays Great But Lt Is A Great Player How Good Is He Your Whole Focus Since The Schedules Came Out And U Knew Who You Where Playing Was Stop Lt I Read The Player Interviews So What Does He Do Go 120+ Yard And Seals The Game On That 3rd And Short When Everybody In That Stadium Knew Who Was Going To Get The Ball

He had a pretty good look at Babin when he tackled him twice for a big loss on the screen pass, and then the run. That's not to say that LT isn't a great RB, but saying he can only be tackled from behind by a guy he doesn't see is a bit of a stretch.

you guys make me sick talking about turnovers is why you lost. yes it was a contributing factor but how about this.

YOU GUYS ONLY HAD 77 TOTAL YARDS IN THE SECOND HALF. PLAY 60 MINTUES NOT 30!!!

Sure you had 259 in the first half. alot because of blown coverage on 2 screens. Take away the P.I. from quentin jammer that's 7 points off. and if sammy davis gets a pick on the second drive thats 3 more.

You guys should have lost 27-10!!! think about that.

think long and hard about hte 77 total yards in the entire second half then talk about turnovers. you were lucky to be in it

We don't need the first letter of every word capitalized.

Thanks.

SDBoltz -

You're right about being lucky to be in it. Against a "Good" team we should have lost by a few touchdowns. Fortunately we were playing the Chargers. I have to give you guys credit about Antonio Gates, I don't know how the rest of his season will go but Brown definitely couldn't cover him. Also Parker made a nice play getting both feet in although it was a little controversial at the time.

Anyway...on to week 2

in my opinion LT didnt have his normal balance or he would have gone for 180 plus. even though he did gash you a few times. regardless noth is normal L.T. game with 4.6 a carry more used to 5.5 .

That doesn't do much for the New Bengals argument. The Bengals had Corey Dillion, and the Bengals also beat us in a game when we were favored.

something you may not realize is how quick LT is. I saw him make a spin move for 8 yards when he shoulda been stopped for 2. I say DD make a spin move yesterday for 4 yards when he shoulda been stopped for 2. Difference being DD span looked around for a split second and then went forward a bit andwas hit. L.T. has the awareness to know where everyone is at all times and he can control his body well. This gives him a big edge over 95 percent of the backs in the league

Vinny 09-13-2004 06:17 PM

Stay on-topic guys. I'm gonna start splitting off the off-topic if it keeps going like this Chargerguys. I'm just talking in general. Not here specifically.

We could make the same what if's on our side. If Dunta isn't called for the PI call then points would come off your board. If Carr doesn't step on his O-Linemans foot he wouldn't have thrown the interception. The point being that what ifs are pointless, and they can go on and on forever. The fact remains that we lost, but the fact remains our turnovers amounted to 14 points for the Chargers. If we had been playing a division rival and/or a tougher team we likely would have lost by more than 7 pts, but that isn't meant to take anything away from the Chargers win. They capitalized on 2 of those turnovers, and that was the difference in the game. If our defense had forced a turnover or two then it could have been a different outcome, but that being said the Chargers were more prepared and won the game outright. We're simply dissecting the game, and looking at how we can improve. It's the same thing any fans would do after a tough loss. Mistakes like turnovers are undoubtedly a part of the game we need to improve upon when we head to Detroit.
