Practice Squad and FA's

Is KFFL the best website to see when prctice squads are picked and FA's signed?
Anyone heard any info on Texans squad yet?

Vinny 09-06-2004 02:36 PM

The end of the waivers period ended at 11am. I don't know how long it will take to announce the players who will make up the PS, but look for some new names along with a few we expect.

Check out the defensive free agents. There are some good veterans that can back up Payne and Walker. Don't ask me who we would cut because I don't know.

Casserly said last night on Channel 13 they would know who they were keeping on the PS by 1:00 today. They were planning on having them at todays practice. Haven't seen anything on it though.

Texans rarely get into a rush on these types of announcements...now those practice spies on the other hand.

Tulip 09-06-2004 04:46 PM

It's finally announced:

Sept. 6: Signed

Linebacker D.D. Acholonu
Defensive End Jason Davis
Linebacker Anthony Dunn
Safety Jammal Lord
Tight End Matt Murphy
Linebacker Shantee Orr
Wide Receiver Sloan Thomas
Runnning Back Renaldo Works

to the practice squad.

sprtsfanatic 09-06-2004 04:49 PM

Surprised Duff wasnt asked to stick around...I thought he had a pretty good training camp and pre-season.

powda 09-06-2004 05:04 PM

no real surprises...

lord will be next years faggins.

Tulip 09-06-2004 05:15 PM

Perhaps Duff was signed to the Bears' practice squad.

Lord looked like he was adjusting well and working hard. I'm glad to see he's still working with the team.

Looks like Works is the only "outsider" that made the practice squad.

Reddevil63 09-06-2004 06:30 PM

Wasnt he with Oklahoma last year?

cuppacoffee 09-06-2004 06:40 PM

Renaldo Works

A little info.
Read somewhere that he was cut last week by Miami. Guess Casserly just wanted to take a look for himself.

nunusguy 09-06-2004 06:44 PM

Murphey is on the PS, so there's their 3rd TE. Still, I think it sounds encouraging for Joppru.

Fiddy 09-06-2004 07:18 PM

i guess Orr was eligible for the practice squad... :bag:

edo783 09-06-2004 10:11 PM

Yup, that kind of surprised me. The way I read the rules it didn't look like it, but I am not the rules guru. Kind of surprised that Lekkerker didn't get put on it. Must not have looked as good as it was sounding.

Diehardtexan 09-07-2004 09:09 AM

This is from the Texans site they signed 8 plyers to the practice squad after they cleared waver.

Texans sign 8 to practice squad
HoustonTexans.com

The Houston Texans signed eight players to the practice squad Monday afternoon, seven of which worked with the team through training camp.

Linebackers D.D. Acholonu, Anthony Dunn and Shantee Orr were away from the team for only a few hours, as were defensive back Jammal Lord, defensive end Jason Davis, tight end Matt Murphy and wide receiver Sloan Thomas.

Running back Renaldo Works is the only new addition to the team. Works spent training camp with the Miami Dolphins and rushed for 1,538 yards and 21 touchdowns in four years at Oklahoma.

“Yesterday we met with the players we released and they came in this morning and the waiver wire came through at 11 o’clock.” Texans head coach Dom Capers said. “All the guys we hoped to add to the practice squad we were able to sign.”

I think Orr and Murphy will be moved up and see some action this year. :twocents:

I think Thomas and Lord will both make the roster next year. :twocents:

Murphy will see some playing time this season. All he needs is a chance.

Will there be a NFL Europe next year? If so, I'd like to see Lord & Thomas there. Both are top athletes who need to play as much football as possible.

Shantee Orr was a college DE in '02, a OLB in '03, and now has been asked to move to ILB. Like Faggins last year, I think it's only a matter of time (and instruction) for Orr to be a legit NFL backup.

A would read too much negative into that. Miami needs someone who can run today. If Works need some work, then sitting him on a practice squad to develop is not a bad thing.
