QB come of age
 

I have no idea why I ever questioned the abilities of David Carr. This young man is something special. He has grown tremendously from day one and he now looks like the QB he was drafted to be. His maturity and poise is astounding. Never, ever doubt the drive and conviction of this guy again. We are very lucky to have him. 3 straight games with an unbelieveable amount of leadership and accuracy. I'm pumped for game 1. Imagine what he and the gang will do when they play then entire game.

Easy Sudds... don't get too hyped yet.




... but dang if I don't agree with ya. He's visibly improved this year, at least through 3 preseason games, in leadership and making decisions.

He has improved a lot since his first season but even a lot still since last season. It's definitely true when they say the third year is the key to seeing how good someone can/will be. I'm not saying that he's going to be great...but from what I've seen- he's on his way there.

He is making a lot better decisions and seems to be a little more patient with letting the plays develope. He has shown a lot of confidence in his abilities and the abilities of his fellow teammates. Although he is playing so well right now- he still has some rough edges and some polishing to do before he is a very good consistent QB.

Now we see how special this guy is and what the future may hold for football in Houston.

I agree with everyone thus far. Carr has always had the atheletic talent and ability, but it was the mental aspect that he needed to develop. He looks cool and calm in the pocket, and looks more like a savy veteran than a young gun. Dare I say 'Farveish'? That's who he sort of reminds me of, and a little bit of Elway too. His touch is much improved over last season, and with the exception of a few mental lapses he looks good out there. I can't wait till the season starts.

We'll find out come November 7th.

The quality that has me so enthusiastic about Carr's play in the frist few games is his newly displayed ability to comfortably sense the rush, step into (or out of) the pocket whilst keeping his focus on making plays downfield.

Carr is progressing as well as possible. How is Harrington this preseason? I can only say I think the Texans the right man for the Texans.

I did notice he no longer has happy feet and he is working the play action almost perfectly. He has shown alot of touch over this preseason game.

Harrington is struggling. He now has some weapons, but the kid still has yet to have a decent game. Detroit fans are starting to really doubt the kid, especially because his completion percentage is extremely low. He's thrown 2 TD passes this preseason, but one was made because of a circus catch by Rogers on a bad throw. However I did notice that when Detroit beat someone a couple weeks ago, Joey was 5/11 with a TD and the fans thought that was improvement. That's scary. The guy didn't even get 50% of his passes completed and the TD was Rogers acrobatic catch. Harrington is not accurate at all. He has guys open, but usually throws behind or at the feet of the receiver. We definitely made the right decision. Mort even said that the entire NFL would choose Carr over Harrington in a heart beat. People are really starting to see the star potential of Carr.

But, is it strictly Harrington and he's given abilities, or does it matter the talent around the QB along with how well he is coached and trained? May have been different for him, had he went to another team... thought getting Steve M. as a head coach is better than they've had before.

Ah well, we've got a good system in process here - let Detroit figure their issues.

He'll be tested tonight against Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens.

Carr has improved in almost every area of the game. His patience has impressed me very much. He actually has a pocket to step into, and he has worked well within it. His touch on the ball has improved with a little bit to much on the ball to Bradford. If he would have put a little less touch on that one, it would have been a completion. The ball was still catchable though. One of the few "mistakes" he made last night.

As good as Carr as looked so far this pre-season, I'm still waiting to see how good he'll be if he's actually given more time to throw the ball than the opposing QB for a change.

Going into the regular season, it indeed will be a very long one if the Texans continue to get beat in the "time to throw" battle. And I haven't seen them win that battle yet, even in the games that hey have won.

I've seen Bradford miss too many of Carr's bullet passes to say it would have been a sure completion. And if David had drilled the pass to Corey, and Corey not come up with it, people would say "Carr needs to put more touch on his passes". Bradford should have caught the ball.

True, it wasn't a sure completion, and as I stated above it was still a catchable ball. With Bradford's speed, if Carr would have led him with a little more on the ball it could have been a big play.

I also said "a little less touch on the pass", not that he should have drilled it. Heck, I was glad to see him put some touch on the ball. He looked great, and Bradford looked good too.

If you guys are talking about the long incompletion to Bradford on the first drive, Bradford had inside position on Bailey but Carr hung the ball a bit to the outside causing Bradford to have to back into Bailey instead of hitting him in stride. There was a safety coming over from the middle (and maybe Carr saw that) but he was a bit late and if Carr would have roped that one a bit more instead of floating it, I think Bradford would have had a better chance of making the reception.

And then of course there was the long one to Bradford early in the 2nd -- that was perfectly thrown.

Carr was very impressive last night and on balance the entire group of starters on the offensive unit looked good for the time they were on the field in the first half. That unit will need to play inspired ball this year, because from the looks of
the D unit, we may give up a ton of points. Plumber had all day, and many times
this year we are going to face far better passers in our own division. I know we
had several defensive staters out of action, but still one would hope we could
have put toghether some sort of pass rush. Not last night.

That is something I noticed last night. He had very good footwork, and a couple of his playfakes - which in the past have not been the most convincing - fooled me. I thought he played an excellent half considering he didn't have the best protection.

Agreed- I think his playfakes, along with the development of touch on certain passes, have been the biggest improvements.
His audibles have also been effective... which is very encouraging. :thumbup

I told you so,.............I guess I did. Davie "Franchise" is growing right before our eyes. For all of those that get on the air and bash this guy, get a hold of yourselves. The maturity he is starting to show in the pocket is alot better than last season, getting rid of the ball, rather than taking the loss of yards is better, seeing the field is better, throwing the deep ball is better, heck, the kid is just playing better. Add in a healthy DD and unstoppable AJ, this offense could be unreal this season. Go Davie GO, prove all the haters wrong baby! :headbang:
