NFL quarterback punish the blitz with an open backfield all the time. Hot read a TE or RB and they have 15 yards of open field in front of them.

there is nothing we do that i hate more than the empty backfield. i HATE HATE HAAAATTEE the empty backfield. you're just giving the defense a green light to your quarterback. we dont have 5 receivers anyway, what's the point? leave your back where he belongs to pick up the blitz and keep linebackers honest. it's just stupid to play the empty set in our offense.

The plays weren't bad, the problem is Case needs more experience to recognize the blitzers, call them out and make the hot read throw, there were guys slanting over the middle, he needs to make the tight throw (which h can do, just needs to get better pre-snap, with more PRACTICE) Good thing is, he has 2 FULL weeks to get more comfortable in his new role. I hope our defense learns to tackle :vincepalm:

Is the QB allowed to make a hot read throw in this offense? I would think that would be tantamount to mutiny to Kubiak.

Why did we not run screens to slow the blitz at the end of the game?

Considering they work against us for a couple of 20+ yard gains each week, you'd think we'd have learned about them by now.

We had no running backs. Better off trying to spread them out. Letting Hali come free off the edge... that's not about having an empty backfield. He'd have destroyed anyone we put back there.

Do you guys really think the coaches draw up empty backfield plays and say... "If they blitz, well that's just too tough to overcome. Good play by the defense."

It's up to the OL, QB, and receivers to recognize the blitz and adjust accordingly.

I honestly believe that adjustments would get someone benched by Kubiak.

you are at a distinct disadvantage. Not having a no huddle, fast paced offense causes you to burn timeouts.

Kubiak's entire philosophy was exposed today.

This is still a free country and you can post what you want, but you're really :deadhorse with this. I don't know for certain, but I seriously doubt that very many NFL QB's have the uninhibited option to audible at will. Most HC's do it pretty much like Kubiak does. Two, maybe three plays sent in and audible to one of the back up plays if needed.

P. Manning is definitely one that can. Other than that, maybe Rodgers, Romo and Phillips might have that kind of authority. Maybe.

Anywho, can you please move on to a different subject? We have plenty to be concerned about and it's obviously not all on what plays the QB can or can't audible to. This has been a PSA from your friendly neighborhood :overreact: regulator. :kitten: :fans:

You don't follow the texans and interviews a lot do you?

KUBIAK SAID, JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO, HE DEOS NOT ALLOW AUDIBLES. HE CALLS THE PLAY EVERY DOWN AND THATS THE PLAY HIS QB IS EXPECTED TO RUN.

The Texans are one of 7 teams in the NFL whose QB is micro-managed like this according to the news. I don't know which teams the others are, but if their record isn't much like this team's record I would be shocked. Micromanagement doesn't work in any environment.

I might be wrong, but I think dream_team is saying that empty backfields are sometimes used to burn blitzes, not that they're called for and the QB can't audible out of them. I believe I saw two cases of an empty backfield being audibled to today.

Case has some work to do in reading defenses. He did a great job of extending plays and showed a very nice arm, along with touch and accuracy (except on that fade to DHOP in the EZ...should've been beck shoulder).

I think I'm going to retire my Cushing jersey and 2012 AFC South Champions hats. They seem to be bringing the team bad luck as I've been wearing them all year and the Cushing jersey all of last season. Maybe I'll buy a Schaub jersey and try the reverse psychology thing.

I lament your apparent inability to read and comprehend. LINK

Quote:

Here’s how the Texans’ operate: Schaub has a lot of freedom at the line of scrimmage.

Kubiak said later that Schaub checked the Texans out of “a lot situations” in which the defensive formation wasn’t conducive to what the Texans wanted to run.

When the Texans are in their hurry-up offense, Schaub calls everything at the line of scrimmage.

Otherwise, Kubiak’s system doesn’t utilize audibles that allow Schaub – or any quarterback – to decide what play to call based on the defense.

Kubiak’s comment doesn’t go to show a lack of trust in Schaub at all. People are reading his comment that way, but it’s not the case.

The Texans have predetermined options that are set by the coaches.

Schaub can call two plays in the huddle based on what the coverage might be. He can check out of one and go with the other at the line of scrimmage.
Quote:

Common sense should tell you that if it’s third-and-2 and the defense puts 11 players in the box that Schaub will switch to another play.

On the play in question, once the receiver started in motion, it was too late to check off.

On the bootleg, the quarterback has the option to throw to a receiver, throw it away, run or take the sack.

Schaub chose the worst option.
Schaub, or any other Texans QB, can audible to the optional play(s) sent in from the sideline. No Texan QB can just call a play all willy-nilly.

BTW, I follow the Texans very, very closely and the NFL pretty dang closely. I'm wondering if you're dating a French model you met on the internet. Bon juor and all.

I also listened to the words as they came out of the man's mouth. That he went back a couple of days later to renig on a candid conversation with a prepared speech weighs very low for me. I think he told the truth the first time.
