One more for my namesake. A 1969 photo of a flight of Navy F-4J Phantom II's departing San Diego en route to the carrier USS Constellation for deployment to SE Asia.
The lead Phantom is F-4J N155800 aka Showtime 100. Three years later she would make Lt. Randall Cunningham and Lt(jg) William Driskoll the first aces of the Vietnam War. After downing three MiG-17's, one carrying the infamous Col. Toon (man or myth), the Phantom was the victim of a near miss from a surface-to-air missile and didn't make it home, but she got her crew close enough to home to be rescued.
A very rare North American JRB-45C Tornado sits in the farthest corner of the Strategic Air and Space Museum at Ashland, Nebraska. The B-45 was the first operational jet bomber in the United States Air Force and has been largely overlooked.
