To follow a tradition here on the page in honor of Week 1 of the upcoming NFL season. An F-16C from the 111th Fighter Squadron based at Ellington AFB shows her pretty Texans colors.

One more for my namesake. A 1969 photo of a flight of Navy F-4J Phantom II's departing San Diego en route to the carrier USS Constellation for deployment to SE Asia.

The lead Phantom is F-4J N155800 aka Showtime 100. Three years later she would make Lt. Randall Cunningham and Lt(jg) William Driskoll the first aces of the Vietnam War. After downing three MiG-17's, one carrying the infamous Col. Toon (man or myth), the Phantom was the victim of a near miss from a surface-to-air missile and didn't make it home, but she got her crew close enough to home to be rescued.

A very rare North American JRB-45C Tornado sits in the farthest corner of the Strategic Air and Space Museum at Ashland, Nebraska. The B-45 was the first operational jet bomber in the United States Air Force and has been largely overlooked.

A once unthinkable formation. A North American F-86 Sabre and a MiG-15* fly together showing the differences in their airframes. American and North Korean/Chinese/Soviet pilots had a tough time differentiating the two in the air so the U.S. painted yellow stripes on the wings, tail, and fuselage.

*NATO code name 'Fagot' - [Fagot - a hastily bundled pile of sticks.(lol)]

May, 1987. An air-to-air left side view of a Soviet TU-95 Bear-H aircraft being escorted by a U.S. Navy F-14A Tomcat aircraft, foreground, and a U.S. Air Force F-15 Eagle aircraft after it was intercepted approximately 350 nautical miles southwest of Adak, Alaska. The F-14 is from Naval Station, Adak, and the F-15 is assigned to the 21st Tactical Fighter Wing, Alaskan Air Command.
