Oakland Raiders offensive tackle Jared Veldheer has been lifting weights this offseason.
And apparently doing nothing else.
No time for sleep, reading a book or watching the NCAA tournament when you're trying to get pumped up like Veldheer. Not now chief, I'm in the zone!

Veldheer went from looking fairly normal, or at least as normal as a 300-pound man can look, to what you see in the above picture, which was posted by strength coach Mark Ehnis (@ThePowerMark on Twitter). Veldheer is the guy in the blue shirt, if you couldn't guess.

Now you glance at his picture a dozen times to confirm to yourself it's real.

If you guys click on the link and see what he looked like before, you can't help bit think of roids. How can someone change so much in one off season, regardless of how much work they put in.

I know OT's don't have the be the fastest players on the field, but they have to have some agility. Wouldn't bulking up that much slow him down quite a bit?

I am not a workout warrior, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was using HGH.

That was my first thought as well. Becoming stronger is one thing, but putting on too much muscle can lead to less flexibility.

Its hard to say what's going on without knowing his weight then and now but he was no small guy to begin with judging from the pick above. He looked pretty "untoned" in his pic from the story but we don't know when that pick was taken and we don't know what this guy's core muscle mass was like. With dedication, its possible to bulk up like that in 1 off season...

Comparing before/after pics, he looks like he's got the Barry Bonds sydrome of increased head size.

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'... :hmmm:

Actually, he doesn't look all that bulked up to me compared to his old pictures. That just looks like post-workout pump vs. non-pumped.

But can he play TE? If so trade for him!

Kinda what i thought too...plus he's standing next to "normal" sized guys so that makes him look like a giant.

this is where i'm leaning as well. dude's 6'8" and 320lbs. he's going to look like "hulk smash puny humans!" next to average sized guys, especially if he's been training harder this offseason to muscle up.

No doubt. And he doesn't have the Barry Bonds melon-head going on, so unless proven otherwise I've got to assume it is a very big boy that is pumped up.

I don't see the big difference in size.

He looks like he has more definition, and you're always bigger after work outs...

As far as losing agility, I don't see that either...dude doesn't look a whole lot bigger to me from those pics...

Of course people screamed “steroids” but is 6’8 325-330lbs THAT big? Jared gained 15lbs in the last 3 years and he trains his ass off (read on). Why is it always the lazy skinny guys sitting in their mom’s basement with a shake weight screaming “steroids” when they see someone who obviously put in work day after day? Someone said he’s on steroids because his head is so small. I don’t know if that’s a real side effect or not but I’ve known Jared for a while and his noggin is massive! (No offense big guy). We all got a chuckle out of that ignorant comment.

I thought the shake-weight comment was pretty funny.

Being big doesn’t necessarily mean you lose speed and power. Increasing muscle cross-sectional area (building more muscle) provides a larger base on which to build strength, speed and power- if that’s the purpose of your program. In our case this is exactly our purpose because NFL linemen need to have enough muscle to be strong, powerful, etc.

Fat cells are easily turned to muscle .... :kitten:

You can’t literally “turn fat into muscle”. They are two separate types of tissues.

Kinda what i thought too...plus he's standing next to "normal" sized guys so that makes him look like a giant.

In this picture, from left to right- Jared is 6’8 330lbs, I’m 5’11 234lbs, Cam White is 6’2 249lbs, and Jesse Peterson is 6’4 304lbs – pretty above average guys he’s standing next to if you ask me.

It is almost as if Mark Ehnis (the trainer) had read this forum with the way he started off the article by shooting down negative statements that were made on this board (as well as other places I'm sure).

Here is the entire article, including some video from his work-out.

And yes Corrosion, I saw the :kitten: smilie.
