View Full Version : What's their record gonna be??????

We all read the posts that say "...and with that said, I think they'll go 10-6"
So what's the record really gonna be? Nobody knows. But there seems to be a general concensus that it'll be anywhere from 9-7 to 11-5. There are some 8-8 guys out there and some 12-4's, but those seem to be few.
I want to know what you guys & gals think our record is really gonna be but with a TWIST. I want to know who we lose to in your opinion and any optional reasoning on some wins that would seem as a "bold prediction".

Mine is 11-5. I got us winning ALL home games and that includes Pitt and Ind. My losses are @ Cin, @ Ind, @ Sea (nite game), @ Bal, @ Jax.
Side note is that both the weeks we play Ind. is the week after they have Mon. night games.
Pitt is our home opener. We win.
KC is our home nite game. We win.
1st Ind game is @ home after they play STL on Mon and they'll (the players, not the coaches) look past us cuz the next week (8) is their bye.
The Jax sweep is over but we keep the Tenn one is still alive.
One more side note if I may. Our last 4 games are @ Tenn, home Ariz, home Jax (my B-day), and @ SF. Ariz scares me but I think still winable. That is as favorable as we've ever had it to finish a season. Especially if the division hinges on whether we win or lose @ SF. texanpride

Remember, this is for fun, this is to kill time, and this is NOT to be taken seriously. And plz, no predicting injuries, that's bad karma.

I'm gonna say 9-11 but I don't have the time to breakdown exactly what each win and loss is going to be. I'll just say that we'll probably win some we should lose and lose some we should win. :highfive:

A huge fan like everyone else - but have more than few ??? and doubts in my mind about this upcoming season for the club. Put me down for 8-8 on the year. IMO Feel like were making enough changes and enough new faces it will take us a while to ge everyone back on the same page again and will cost us a few games. But I do think we have enough stars and talent to bring the record up to .500 closer to the end of the season when we are playing together more. I dont see playoffs this year for us.

I'm gonna say 9-11
You mean 9-7 right. You've got week 1 on the brain (9/11) just like I do.
Thoughts and prayers to those affected by 9/11. That is the obvious forethought of the day, not football.

For the first time i can look at a Texan schedule and honestly say that there is not a team on their that they cannot beat. So this one is a little difficult.

So lets do the math of averages. Each year I predict what our final record is going to be and i am pethetically wrong. The first year I said 8-8(4-12) The second year I predicted 9-7(5-11) Last year I went out on a limb and said
11-5(7-9) So I have been wrong by the average of four games. So lets say we go 16-0(with the schedule we have its possible )and then subtract the games that I have been wrong by(4) and so now my prediction will be 12-4. Yep 12-4.

Yes sir......12-4

TEXANRED, we finished 6-10 last year (unfortunately).

I'm predicting 9-7 with a wildcard spot for our first trip to the postseason. :thumbup

We'll lose to the Colts, Steelers, Jaguars, Chiefs

I've guessed 3-13, 6-10, and 7-9 as our three records. Not far off. I think 9-7 is in the cards this year.

9-7 with losses to Buffalo, Indyx2, Ten, Seattle, Bmore, Jax...wild card close, but I think 10-6 will be required :embarrass

I think our OL is way below average and will provide below average protection and run blocking (which after 4 years blows my mind--this is the one area I am not too sure we have really improved in line with the franchise growth overall)...protection being the major concern to really have a down the field attack. I think we will be fine defensively...in fact better rush this year...this may account for one more win, maybe 2.

10-6.

We will beat the Bills and Steelers and one against INDY.

11-5 and it happens like this (Copied from a previous thread)

09.11 at Buffalo: W

New starting QB and the Texans remembering what happened against San Diego in the 2004 opener. I think the team takes this one seriously and we go 1-0

09.18 Pittsburgh (04 playoff team): W

I believe Pittsburgh is going to start slow in 2005. The Cinderella season is over for the Steelers, they're coming back down to earth in 2005 and the game is played in Reliant. The Texans win their home opener for a 2-0 record

09.25 Bye: W

The bye puts up a heck of a fight (as always) but the Texans hang in there and win in overtime to preserve their perfect start.

10.02 at Cincinnati: W

Can the NFL please show us some mercy with the Bengals and get them off our schedule? Sometimes it feels like we're still in the AFC Central because we play these bums in their clown suits ever year. Maybe it just seems that way because so far they always beat us which really needs to stop if we're going to be seeing them almost every year. Finally we're going to turn that around. Yes, I'm predicting a 3-0 start to the season. I know how messed up that is but, well there you go.

10.09 Tennessee: L

The sweep isn't in the cards this year and when young teams who've never won start the season 3-0 they tend to let down. This is when it happens. The Texans fall to 3-1 here.

On a side note however I predict that if the team manages to again lose to the Bengals (please no) then we rebound to win this game. Regardless we're going to be 3-1 on the Monday following this game.

10.16 at Seattle (national tv - 04 playoff team): W

Maybe this is a bad, homer like prediction based on the simple fact that I have no respect for Holmgren or the Seahawks. So be it. I think we're going to be 4-1 after this game and the talk of the NFL.

10.23 Indianapolis (04 playoff team): W

First win over the Colts. Make a point of being at this one. Texans are 5-1 and people are packing that bandwagon.

10.30 Cleveland: W

Yes, I'm actually thinking that we beat the Browns to go 6-1. I understand that this is starting to look like a pipe dream type prediction but I think this a very winnable game. We owe these guys so bad for last season and they're going through some serious changes this off season. I think we win this one. 6-1 and people are talking about our first trip to the playoffs.

11.06 at Jacksonville: L

The wheels are literally going to fall off the team this week. Just like the Browns have it coming the previous week the Texans are due one smack in the head from the Jags this week. We drop to 6-2 and this game will not look pretty. I bet we get our butts kicked here.

11.13 at Indianapolis (04 playoff team): L

The extreme fair weather fans start hopping off right here because the Colts are going to do exactly what Jacksonville did to us the week before. Beat us badly. Record is 6-3 now.

11.20 Kansas City (national tv): W

Again, like the Bengals this is getting old. It seems like we're always playing the Chiefs. Anyway we're what? .500 against them? We win this one because the Chiefs are going to have a down year IMO and we're going to be part of it. 7-3 as we tie our previous high in wins. No way we can not improve over 2004 with 6 games left.

11.27 St. Louis (04 playoff team): W

This is going to be a tough game but the Texans can do it. Orlando Pace played the Texans this year so he could get more money out of the Rams. He'll be wishing he was on our team after this game. Pace will do his job but he won't be the problem and he won't be able to prevent the loss. Texans are 8-3 now.

12.04 at Baltimore: L

I don't know why, I just think the Ravens will win this game. I guess it could go our way but we're going to lose a couple more and I suspect it'll be here and against Jacksonville. Call it 8-4

12.11 at Tennessee: W

At this point the Titans are out of it and we get the split for the year. 9-4

12.18 Arizona: W

Another young team learning how to win consistently. I really think this could go either way. If the Cards have lost a bunch before this game (say two or three in a row) then I'm more worried then if they come in on a roll. I think we win though and hit 10-4

12.24 Jacksonville: L

Nothing like the first game where I think the Jags will beat us bad but we're not going to win this one. The Jags finally sweep us. It was bound to happen. 10-5

01.01 at San Francisco: W

We finish the year beating the stuffing out of the 49'rs new franchise QB. It'll be fun and we're going to the playoffs with an 11-5 record.

If this happens exactly as I've described I will be accepting cold beer as "tribute" for my predictions.

With Indy most likely repeating as division champion, the Texans make the wild card. Probably going to take at least 10 wins to get it. I think we sweep the Titans, split with the Jags and Indy losing the road games, winning at home.

06-26-2005, 05:47 PM
I to will call a 9-7 season, but unlike T-281, I don't see it as an optimistic thing. Assuming the injuries are few and not to key people and we get a good bounce or two, I think 10-6 COULD be in the cards. I think 8-8 is the min. standard for a reasonable season. Again, progress, but not as much as we would have liked.

Vinny
06-26-2005, 05:51 PM
I think 9-7 would be a fine season. Plus or minus one game of 9-7 is my call as well. You have to keep in mind that only 6 teams in the NFL won more than 10 games last year.

Houston at Buffalo, 1:00 p.m. Win
: Should be a low scoring game because of the Bills D, but I can't see how we lose to J.P. Losman, basically a rookie QB

Pittsburgh at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Win
: Another low scoring game but I see Big Ben in our house having the sophmore jitters to start the season with no Plaxico Burress to throw to

Houston at Cincinnati, 1:00 p.m. Win
: High scoring game this time due to the air attack. D. Carr has a monster game with 400 yards and 4 TD's with our secondary coming up huge with 4 INT's due to the speed of our pass rush disturbing C. Palmer

Tennessee at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Win
: Tennessee is definatly rebuliding this year

Houston at Seattle, 8:30 p.m. Win
: DD runs all over Sharper and says "That's what you get for leaving" while enroute to the huddle as well as the Seahawks still can't catch a pass and D-Rob and PB both get INT's because of this reason

Indianapolis at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Win
: We finally beat the Colts because we finally figure a way to beat the cover 2, and as well as our secondary with D-Rob, PB, & Petey with an INT

Cleveland at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Win
: Vengance is ours sayith the Texans and Cleveland at this point has hit rock bottom, besides they left a bad taste in our mouths from the last game

Houston at Jacksonville, 1:00 p.m. Loss
: We finally lose one because we have one of those games were nothing goes right and we blow up :bomb: but as well as because they want a pay back from the whoopin we gave them last year

Houston at Indianapolis, 1:00 p.m. Loss
: The Colts beat up on us and BAD

Kansas City at Houston, 8:30 p.m. Win
: Our D outplays their O, and Mathis runs one back for a TD on Special Teams

St. Louis at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Loss
: Our D has a meltdown and Walker goes down with another injury :ouch:

Houston at Baltimore, 1:00 p.m. Loss
: We have a huge game on D with 4 turnovers but we also make the mistake and have to many turnovers

Houston at Tennessee, 1:00 p.m. Win
: Here is where we get back on the right track and it all comes together for us on Offense, Defense, and Special Teams with Mathis running another one back for TD on Special Teams

Arizona at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Win
: Our young guys are just a little better than theirs and AJ has a monster game to really prove why he will again be chosen to go to the Pro-bowl

Jacksonville at Houston, 1:00 p.m. Win
: We even the series this year at 1-1, but as we all know though, this is the one that counts, and yes we are in the playoffs but not only that, we took the Hags, oh I mean the Jags out of the playoffs

Houston at San Francisco, 4:05 p.m. Win
: were on an emotional high and D. Ragone shows why he is going to be traded for a 1st round draft pick

12-4, but we have to "play to win" instead of play "not to lose"

and we will be this years "Chargers"

I like it. I think that we could beat Baltimore though. We seem to play well against good defenses that have no offense. 13-3 sounds even better. Homefield advatage so I can go to more games. :highfive:

8-8 seems about right. If everything goes right we could win 9 but, on the other hand, a couple of key injuries and the bottom could fall out.

Realistically, I'd say anywhere from 7-9 to 11-5. There are too many variables right now to say much more than that. Injuries, player development, referees, ball bounces will all determine at least 2 or 3 games.

I'm expecting this team to finish at around 9-7. If we get some bad breaks then we might only get 8-8, but I think there's a real chance for this team to get 10 wins.

1st Ind game is @ home after they play STL on Mon and they'll (the players, not the coaches) look past us cuz the next week (8) is their bye.

Remember, this is for fun, this is to kill time, and this is NOT to be taken seriously. And plz, no predicting injuries, that's bad karma.

I was just perusing the message boards for the other Afc south sites to see what was being said. I have to respectfully disagree with the comment above. If the colts played y'all AFTER the bye week then I'd say you're probably right, but before the break if we have any momentum we usually keep it goin'. Personally I hate the bye week 'Cause the Colts always seem to come out flat and blow games that should be in the W column (Jacksonville ansd KC last season come to mind. :brickwall )

11-5 and it happens like this (Copied from a previous thread)

09.11 at Buffalo: W

New starting QB and the Texans remembering what happened against San Diego in the 2004 opener. I think the team takes this one seriously and we go 1-0

Bills fan here traveled over from bb.com. Not a troll, just want to talk football with some "hopefully" reasonable fans. You should see the Miami homers we have to deal with. Just want to get some inside perspective from the opponent and can hopefully share some information with you guys.

Anyways, the bills lost their home opener AT home last year on a last second throw, you think they will not take it seriously. Plus the terrible taste that has been left in their mouth after that dismal performance Pitt. Like Takeo said this off season there is "unfinished business." I just cant see us losing the home opener with a healthy defense (we missed Vincent and Milloy a bit last year, Milloy was gone for the first 4 games).

That being said we all know the biggest question mark is Losman and I refuse to make my judgement on him until I see him in training camp and preseason games.

Back to the question at hand. I feel the Texans are slowly becoming a good team, the only problem is they have the Colts, a superbowl contender and jax the trendy pick this year in their division.

Andre is a STUD at receiver and I am not sold on D.Davis durabilty but when he plays he plays well. The offensive line issue hasnt been addressed though and you lost some key FA on your defense. So I see an 8-8 year for the Texans this year with a playoff push in the 06 season.

Hey there, good to see an opposing fan come in and talk about something like this that way. Absolutely, positively it could turn out to be a Bills victory. I'm a Texans fan though so a certain degree of homerism is going to be involved in that. Despite the fact that I know how unlikely it is for a team to win them all I still sit down to watch every Texans game expecting them to win. What can I say, I'm a fan.

I expect the Texans to be much improved this coming season and one of the few trends the Texans have shown in their brief existence seems to be a strong season opener. Arguably they might be undefeated in season openers had Domanick Davis fumbled twice last year. Capers always seems to have them prepared on opening day.

In short I'm comfortable expecting a solid performance out of the Texans in week one. Surely the Bills will take the game seriously too, I didn't mean to imply that they wouldn't. Don't take it the wrong way when I say that I consider the opener in Buffalo to be "winable" because I also conceed it's "loseable".

I think one thing most outsiders don't realize about our D is that we didn't just "lose" Sharper, Foreman, Glenn, etc. They weren't FA. The team released them because they had some alternative plan (or contract issues). Now, whether that plan works or not is yet to be seen. But the team had some idea what it was getting itself into.

Looking at the schedule, I feel pretty confident about a 9-7 season with a good possibility of doing better if the team finds some consistency.

Hervoyel

Very true Zep. Those players weren't exactly "kicked to the curb" but that's only because the Texans tried to handle things with a certain degree of class all around. In essance that's exactly what happened. The team was going in another direction and while we don't know how that's going to turn out I'm not terribly worried about it at this point and not many of my fellow Texans fans seem to be either.

We got younger and we got faster on defense and in we've still got some veteran leadership in the line, linebackers, and secondary so I think we'll be anywhere from "just fine" to "DID YOU SEE THAT!"

You are right they were not FA's my fault for not having the facts. However, I will argue that they where key contributers to your defense last year, although the houston defense was nothing to go home and brag about. Maybe the new acquistions will improve the defense and a MUCH needed pash rush.

I cant say this a for sure win for the bills by any means, but alot of fans seems to think or atleast from predictions that the bills game will be an easy W.

We are returning 10 starters on the defensive side of the ball which was the #2 ranked last year. Terrence McGee now has a full year under his belt at CB he struggled early but came on late and expect nothing but a good performance out him this year. Troy Vincent has had all offseason and will have training camp and preseason to make his continued transition into a FS. Our only loss was big Pat at DT, a favorite of mine. However he is replaced by a younger, "quicker" (its tough using that word for DTs :) ) Ron Edwards who has been a starter for us in the past and had a significant amount of playing time last year recording 4 sacks and providing constent QB pressure. Where Pat was the clog in the middle Edwards provides the pass rush. That along with our 3rd round draft pick from 2 years ago who has a non stop motor I am more than comfortable that they can fill the "big void" left by Pat (pun intended).

On the offense side of the ball we lost our LT in Jonas Jennings not a super star but a solid LT. We replaced him with a HUGE question mark in Gandy which I am not very comfortable with but I have faith in McNally's ability as a coach. McGahee will now be 3 years removed from his injury and all reports now are that he is stronger, bigger, and faster than he was last year and right now he down in Miami with your boy AJ training at the U.

Losman is our biggest question mark for obvious reasons. I would like to think he will be more prepared than most rookied however. When the time comes he will have a full season of watching from the sidelines, and offseason (which he has been in Buffalo since the end of last season working out, and watching film getting him much respect from teammates) two training camps and two preseason "seasons?" under his belt. So in that regards I dont expect him to perform as a rookie in the full sense of the word.

Anyways thats my RANT for right now, got off topic on this thread but just felt I would give you a little background on your home opening opponent. :highfive:

I got pretty familiar with the Bills when I was preparing for a Mock Draft we did on this board awhile back before the April draft. It was definately hard to do alot in a 3 round mock when one of the teams that you're drafting for is w/o a 1st Round pick. I thought Donahoe did a pretty good job with the picks. It seems as though the Bills have all the tools in place for Losman to succeed, and I'd expect him to have a year similar to Carson Palmer had last season (18 TDs and 18 INTs). He had a similar rookie year experience minus the injury in TC as Losman. Losman will have a pretty stacked offense with a very good RB much like Palmer, but Losman has the added advantage of a very good defense to minimize his mistakes. That could lead to 9 or 10 wins, and when your in the same division as the Jets and the Patriots then you'll definately need every W you can get.

A word of advice on that "easy W" for you. There isn't one. Last season we opened against "the worst team in the NFL" (or at least that's what everyone said they'd be before the season started) and the Texans had, in their two previous seasons beaten the Cowboys on opening night and the Dolphins at their house on opening day (and that is not a common occurance).

We lost to the Chargers. Everyone here (including myself) had that one marked down as an "easy W". It's going to be a good game and the Bills will be favored (as they should be) but it won't be an easy win.

Actually, I was commenting your fans in this thread over 80% of them has this marked down as a win and I think this a much harder game than Houston fans think. But I will take this as we hardly see each other in the season and may know little about the bills and their personal.

I wasnt saying that the bills would get an easy win.

The Bills game will be tough, probably a really close game IMO. with that said, i think the difference will be Losman's inexperience, which will turn into turnovers on his part. I'd expect the Bills to be alot tougher later in the season as Losman matures. I think us playing the Bills as our first game gives us a better chance to win. You really have to take Losman's inexperience as a big part of the outcome of this game. I mean really, do you think he's just gonna go out and have a great game? i just think buffalo will struggle a bit early on in the season and make a good run towards the end of the year. and it really wouldn't surprise me if Buffalo and Houston were the two wild card teams.

CAbills
06-30-2005, 01:48 PM
Your right I do nto expect him to go out and have a great game. He doesnt have to though, we have one of the best defenses in the league and a great ST. He isnt going to be asked to win games he is going to be asked to stay in games. He will have a powerful running game with Willis and although our o-line is not known for his pass-blocking the are an excellent run blocking unit and only improved with big Benny Anderson.

Like I said early I dont expect the deer in the headlights with him. He watched a season from the bench, got a little playing time last year so it would be his first time out, has had two training camps and preseason games. I think he is coming into a great situation. Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, even David Carr all weren'ts supported with a great Defense and pretty much had the weight of the world on there shoulders. Now a player like Ben (I am not saying Losman will duplicate anything Big Ben did) was asked to do very little in terms of winning the game, he had a great running game and great defense which is one of the reasons I think he was so successful.

But it will be a fun game and I cant wait till the season starts!

Hervoyel
06-30-2005, 02:08 PM
I get you. I wasn't predicting an easy win either though from my one line "blurb" I can see how it might look that way. I'm actually predicting it as a very tough win and it's important to the rest of my season scenario. I think winning the Buffalo game will be the kind of road win that starts something rolling. If I'm right and the Texans do get by the Bills then they'll have done something significant.

If the Bills beat us then there's no shame in that. I believe Buffalo is an up and coming team too and capable of beating anyone they play.

Looking forward to it CAbills. Wish I could come up there and see it in person but I'm pretty sure the wife is going to balk at the plane tickets, nevermind the game tickets. I'll have to sit and watch it from Fort Living Room.

Welcome CAbills! It's nice to get a little different perspective around here for a change. IMO, this is largely a dangerously in-bred homer board so a little outside viewpoint is sorely needed from time to time. The Bills should be and will be favored vs. the Texans in the opening game. Not by much though. It should be a good game. Probably low scoring. Losman's a rookie and if we could somehow manage to get pressure on him we could make it difficult for him. Rookies need more time back there. Unfortunately, our DL wouldn't know a sack if it bit them in the backside so Losman will probably have all day to find his receivers.

Believe it or not the week one lines are already out! I think Bills are favored by like 4, but usually the home teams gets an automatic 3, so it looks like the bookies feel this game could easily go either way. Dont worry we have to deal with the same 19-0 superbowl homers on our board, every team gets them, its like a disease. :)

I figured we would lose our first 3 but I thought we would look like an NFL team in those losses. I've never seen a team struggle so much in the passing game as we have. No way we win 9 now....we would have to go 9-3 the rest of the way but we can't even toss a mid range pass or convert a 3rd down. If we play .500 ball the rest of the way I'd be shocked.
